Heading up to Entry Pt. 37 Kawishiwi lake, in a week and hoping to find the walleyes. I've heard that Koma is the best lake in that perticular area.

Also how have the bugs been? I'm assuming hellish. Any info would be much appreciated.

We were there two weeks ago. Caught plenty of small walleyes in Koma, but it was a stretch to even call most of them eaters. Think 10-12 inch fish. The same was true in Malberg, but with a few more 15-16 inchers mixed in. We found them much shallower than expected, on weed edges and even in the thick weeds. The size of them was disappointing but it was fun being able to catch them in the middle of the day.

Maybe we'd have found bigger ones if we'd been willing to try fishing deeper, but between the walleyes and lots of bass coming into the canoe, we were having too much fun fishing shallow to change our approach much.

Also, to our surprise, we didn't catch a single northern, even fishing in the weeds. Probably just a freak thing, but I was still shocked.

Amber and Pan are probably your best bet in that area for quality fish. Kawishiwi is a good lake for chunky walleyes but you probably want to go a bit further than that.

I have done well in the past on Polly. Found a few on Koma, but more quantity on Polly. Some bigger fish on Koma, but not alot of nice sites IMO. Mallberg was a waste of time on more than one occasion for walleye for us, and we spent the whole day fishing it more than once. We keep going to Polly because of this. Polly is a nice paddle, moderately challenging, but not back breaking. Lots of sites, but they fill up fast though.
