Anybody ever fish for perch in the Q? Haven't caught one in decades, but remember how delicious they are and I know they are in the lakes up there. Looking for ideas on tackle and type of structure, or lack of. I know they school!

I have purposely tried for perch twice in canoe country, both times with 1/16 oz chartreuse roadrunners. Once in Sunday bay and I ended up catching quite a few small walleye amongst the weeds but no perch.

And another time on Isle Royale on lake Chickenbone. About 11 am on a bright sunny August day I loudly proclaimed to my crew that I was going out to secure all of us (4 guys) a walleye dinner and I would be back by 5p.m. so have everything ready cause we would feast on walleye for dinner. Now my guys are just average anglers and I have acquired something just short of legendary status in their eyes so they considered it a done deal.

Out I went trolling happily along fully confident of my ability to produce filets. Time went by and not only did I not catch any walleye, I didn't catch anything, as in zippo! With my rep hanging in the balance I decided something, anything, would be far better than nothing. So I eased up next to shore against a defined weed edge and put the little road runner in the rod holder and began quietly easing along hoping for a mess of perch. Before I knew it, and right on time, I put 4 nice fat perfect eating size walleye on the stringer. Back I paddled into camp like I knew what I was doing, reputation intact, and the feast was on. I never did tell them that I basically got really lucky ;-)

I also would like to get on some big perch in canoe country.......gotta be plenty around!

I'm heading out of Stanton Bay... All of the lakes according to the Ontario online source have Perch. I just have no idea where to get them. Maybe I need to be looking for shallow water in late Sept. I've heard about N & S Fowl... I'm nowhere near there though, this year... Thinking about it for next year though!

Great story MT!!!
