Doing a trip the week of labor day and I know that finding leeches is a crap shoot. Any tips on how to ensure you can find leeches? And guaranteed places to get them that time of year?

Thanks Guys,
Brian

I'm doing the same, headed out of Ely. If leeches aren't the ticket, appreciate other tips.

Fake leeches - Gulp. Or if you are strictly a live bait user I am sure there are crawlers or minnows available.

Buy them now and put them in the frig. Change the water. They will keep.

I have never had a problem getting leeches until mid September. Any time before that you should be good.

My thinking is that leeches become less available, they become less effective. I have had better luck with other baits as Fall approachs...

If you can swing over to US169 north of Milaca, these guys had 'em by the dozen on Labor Day last year. Prince Bait

We've had them by the pound every year for labor day, and hope to have them again.

I asked one of the VNO guys about leeches in October, when I'm heading in again and he said they'll have them, but they might be around $30 per pound. I think I may go with minnows for fall, cheaper and maybe even more effective this time of year.

Be careful... I have tried minnows several times. Each time, they were all dead when I got to my first camp site. These trips were all very early around Memorial Day.

I've tried having the bait shop add oxygen and a few other tricks.

I am sure that I'm doing soemthing wrong. But leeches are very hard to kill. In my experience, minnows are very easy to kill.
