We are no kinda fishermen, I mean we might have used a worm and a bobber a few times, but that's it. Since we are base camping for the first time this year we thought it would be fun to try. We will be on Agnes (BWCA), and I am just looking for some simple advice, such as best bait? fishing close to shore vs. deeper water? Just simple stuff like that, thanks in advance

Agnes might be my favorite lake for consistent walleye. Trolling crankbaits or dropping jigs and leeches, never has seemed to matter. Everyone advised us to fish shallower this year than you'd expect, and it has paid off. Almost all have come from 5-8 feet of water. In July and August! They're calling it The Year of No Summer.

Alright here you go. Go to tackle wharehouse and get some Chatterbaits. The trailer is key and get some Big Bite Bait warmouths (also at tackle warehouse) and rig them sideways. Use a dab of super glue to keep them in place. They must come off straight.

Cast out and retrieve. They will catch fish in a wide variety of circumstances. Near bottom is best however. They also excel in the weeds. Shallow or deep they are hard to beat and with only a single hook everything is ez Peazy.

You're putting the trailer on sideways? That thing must have a lot of drag. I personally like the paca chunks for chatterbait trailers rigged normal.
