EXCELLENT TR and pictures! "When we approached the entry point into Lizz Lake, I almost fell over because of how beautiful it was. That probably sounds incredibly cheesy, but its true. The long lake looked like a hallway of trees with a glass floor and I literally lost my breath for a moment. " That doesn't sound "Cheesy" to me, there are several BWCAW lakes like that for me, too! And Lizz is one that just feels like I'm "Coming home" when I paddle down it.
BTW, "Congrats" on the future addition to your paddling crew!

quote cyclones30: "Great report, glad it went well. I have family near Primghar, where are you guys?"
Oh that's awesome! Small world! We are in Le Mars - ice cream capital of the world! My husband works for Blue Bunny. :)

Very nice trip report. Thanks for sharing. Congrats on your exciting news. Don't let him/her keep you from going back. I have taken my youngest on many trips and the others are wanting to go soon.
Without the bad times, the good times wouldn't seem so good.

I loved your trip report! Your photos are wonderful, and it was fun to read about all of the excitement of your first trip!
I also ended up with a little one after my first canoe trip (very much planned), so I can relate to your story quite personally. But we didn't base camp; our trip was quite different from yours, and many years ago (1971).
Poplar/Caribou/Horseshoe/Gaskin, etc. is a favorite area of mine. It was really neat to read of your experiences. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite places to go. We stayed on Gaskin this spring. We also used the wonderful Rockwood lodge. Carl and Mike are great to work with. So we took a very similar trip as yours. I really enjoy reading trip reports of areas that I frequently visit. Thanks for posting.

very entertaining story. you two had a really amazing first trip to the BWCA, glad you took the bull by the horns to get it organized. your dad should be proud of you for taking on the challenge. your photos are wonderful, happy to hear there were so many loons, but no mooses :(. part of seeing so much wildlife and beauty is staying aware and in the moment, not rushed to get somewhere, taking the sidetrips to discover hidden gems in the woods.
great news about your baby on the way. perhaps a BWCA themed name? hopefully you and your husband are comfortable with your skills to get your kids introduced at a young age. someone has to carry the canoe for you eventually!

I am quite passionate about the BWCA and LOVE introducing new people to this special place. Your excellent report reminded me of the satisfaction I feel when I see those "newbies" experience the Boundary Waters for the first time and note what wonder, and enjoyment many of them feel.
As I read your report, I was so happy for you and your husband that now you, too, finally got to live that "dream", that I actually felt choked up a bit thinking about how great this was for you and am so glad it went well and you had that much fun. It was cool to see how you grew through this experience from admitted novices to confidant paddlers who learned what works and doesn't work for you now knowing more how you would do a second trip. Congratulations. You've now been "bitten by the bug" and are hopefully in for many years of BWCA enjoyment.
Also congrats on the little one on the way! May you have as much fun someday bringing that youngster on their first trip as I did when I first brought my kids with me. Great pictures too...well done!

I'm glad you and your husband had such a nice first trip, and congratulations on your news! It is a nice area (I have been through there before) and I just recently returned from much the same trip on many of the same lakes. I also really liked Omega when I was there before and spent an extra day there circumnavigating it. I hope you have many more great trips.

Brings back a lot of memories of my first trip and the wonder I felt and experienced when I got out in the BWCA for the first time. I still haven't recovered from it! Glad you made time to stop and smell the roses, or pine trees and loons as the case may be. Good job!
