Over the last couple of years, I have really envied some of you and the large maps of the BWCA that you could have in your house. We finally moved to a larger place that was just asking for a mural of the BW in the basement. We plan on staying here for awhile, so I decided to do something fairly permanent. I got the mural from Doug Nelson on etsy and the 12 inch barn board from a local guy here tearing down his old barn. The painted paddles were purchased from Sanborn Company a few weeks ago when they were having a sale. The quality of everything is just fantastic!!
I plan on using some 1/8th inch sticker dots to route my past trips on the map and probably hang small pics on the wood frame to remember those special places and people.
Anyway, it should keep me busy planning next years route and help the winter go by a little quicker!!

Wow, that really is cool. And beautiful paddles! What's the overall size? Must be close to about 8' x 6'.

From outside edges of the frame its almost 11' x 8'!! Its quite a bit bigger in person than the pics make it out to be...

Thanks....
Sanborn Company included a wooden mounting bracket with their paddles when they had a sale going on. You could order a second one and hang it horizontally. Its a nicely finished dark stained hardwood.

quote walleyevision: "Wow, that is amazing! Did you have the map matted or anything? I'm curious as to how you set it up as I would like to get one of those maps myself."
Nope...I just put it up as it came...which was in 5 or 6 panels that you just slowly peel the back away from and stick it to the wall, smoothing it out as you go. Very important to get the first one up straight and square so everything lines up as you put the next one up. Mines not 100 percent perfect, but unless your up close looking for it,you wouldn't notice.

I hope I'm not being out of line with this comment (after all, it's yours do what you want ;-)
But as someone who does interior design for a living I think it would be a mistake to clutter the piece up with small pictures along the frame. You would take something which is classy and sophisticated and "bubba it up" if you get my drift.
You could always have a separate wall for meaningful pictures.
No offense intended but I would think twice about changing it. I like it.

I think you are probably right...Id like to incorporate pics somehow , but I can see your point.

Thank you. I have a couple vintage paddles I wanted to put up and now have a good idea for how to do it.
I'm bad, and that's good. I'll never be good, and that's not bad. There is no one I'd rather be than me.
