There's a few that are close, like Amy Lee-Whitney Houston, but Celine Dion is the best. Two powerful performance's.

Mike Patton

It's a little out there but his vocal range is to be admired.

My favorite band is Rush, so it's apparent that sublime vocals aren't of the utmost importance for me.

That said, I am forever sad that I never got to see these two live: Freddie Mercury, as he is the greatest rock/pop vocalist of all time. Followed closely by Roy Orbison.

Susanna Hoffs is my favorite living vocalist. Her voice gives me chills and weak knees. Never seen her live, though.

Best I've seen live:
Annie Lennox
Bono
Steve Perry
Darryl Hall (not so much now - he struggled with high notes when I saw them last summer.)
Ann Wilson
Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell... amazing, haunting harmonies

When I saw the title, I automatically assumed it was a Kristofferson thread....

Righteous Brothers not much compares to this song with lyrics and range.

Amy Winehouse, hands down.

Try Shawn Colvin, and you will never go back. Check out her earlier albums such as, "A Few Small Repairs". The band I had in the 1990's played her song, "Tennessee". That was great to play lead guitar to with drop-D tuning.

Saw her in a solo acoustic concert at a very small venue in Schaumburg, IL a few years ago in the first row center. She was all there - same voice, same guitar playing. Just awesome. I think she is in her mid-50's or close to 60 years old now, and has not lost a beat or tone. Probably some sound clips on Amazon or elsewhere.

Youtube, check out Eva Cassidy, one of my all time favorites. Fields of gold, Somewhere over the Rainbow. Either of those songs showcase her talent.

Steve Perry in the '70's and early '80's. Presently, there are two voices I cannot get enough of Michael Tait from the "Newsboys" and Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, who goes by the name "Plumb." She has the voice of an angel!

I like the Newsboys. I'm not a fan of "Christian" music in general, as I find a lot of it insipid. Nothing against the sentiments of the music or faith. Just don't care for the music. But the Newsboys were pretty awesome. Take Me to Your Leader is one of my favorite albums. Going Public was great, too. Once Furler left the band, I wasn't interested any more... they kind of faded into the pack of generic Christian bands.

Tait has a great voice - I did like DC Talk when he fronted them.
