I am probably limited to mid-July to mid-August trip dates this summer, but still wondered if that time frame provides any real opportunity for catching some lake trout so late in the year. Thinking about a Moose River N entry and basecamping on Oyster...??

You can catch plenty of lake trout in the middle of summer trolling down 15-20 ft deep (and even shallower). Take a bit of time reeling them in and you'll have no problem releasing them.
There are a few recent threads (I think started by CanoeViking) that cover all things (well, some things) lake trout.
Thanks, guys. It's no secret that the NE site on Oyster's peninsula is most folks' first choice. The only fishing mark posted here (>10 yrs ago...) is in the steeply sloping area SE of that peninsula. Is this a decent first area to explore?
