Okay - another bear thread. What the hell... its January! What else do we have to discuss? ;-)

Look how this bear climbs this tree and hangs on by a thread on this rope! I'm impressed. Not scared.

I think the main lesson here is not indulging the bear, and dont underestimate bears skills.

I'm team URSAK. Its been highly tested in zoos to be bear resilient. I'm beginning to think that hanging food in a tree isn't a guarantee. (obviously nothing is.)

Either way. Enjoy.

There are several videos showing bears hanging from ropes to get bird feeders and
the likes.

Once a bear learns how to access a food source they do not forget if it is a sow they well teach it to their cubs.

Once a bear learns to associate humans with food the only sure ways to keep them from repeating that behavior.

Is taking not allowing them access to those types of food sources a very hard thing to do.

With camp raiding bears in an area like the BWCA that is impossible. You are not going to stop or remove people from the BWCA.

Then one is left with the alternative method that is killing the problem bear.

There is no reason for allowing a bear to raid dozens of camps or wait for them to attack someone before killing them.

Not only this, but it's rare to find a decent place to hang a pack with out rigging some fancy pully system. Ursack for me as well. Works with bears, but more importantly with mice if used correctly

why I have followed the Cliff J method of stashing food packs in the woods...so far so good but nothing is a guarantee....
mini bears (mice) also like to follow the line across and drop into your food packs as well.
