Yes, me again! I am setting up my tent to practice in the warm living room,,,
It is a Big Agnes flycreek UL 3. They don't believe in directions or pictures i guess.

So, how do you use the little grey dodad on the string to attach to the stake and tighten the rope/string?

Am i the only person who doesn’t know how to do this? You guys tired of me yet? :)

Is it as simple as looping around and using the tensioner?

lol nice. let us know if u like the tent and what u think after a lil while?
we were looking at that once ourselves but went a different route for a great deal on an alps mountaineering chaos which seems a lil heavy but holds body heat better then a ligher tent we used

Not speaking for Wick, but I have a FlyCreek 2 Platinum, lighter version of the UL 2. It is breezy because of the all mesh body. I consider it semi self standing as the sides, rear, and vestibule, need to be staked. Mine is a bit smaller than the UL 2 so is cramped for 2 roomy for 1, sets up fast, very wind stable when secured, roomy vestibule, light and packs small. Except for the poles which are long at 15 inches (Platinum 2). My Platinum weights 2 pounds with Tyvek innie, guylines, and stakes. The fabric is quite thin and fragile feeling but has held up in my use well.
Have experience with Alps tents, Aries, Mysique, Tarus. Good tents well made but some odd designs. Your Chaos is definitely warmer with beefier materials and heavier. Good design!

same thoughts as BH on the self standing. It does have 4 main corners to stake, but It takes more stakes then my other tent,,11 all counted after all points are staked. I was surprised at that.

The rain fly hooks to the tent, then you tighten both of them by staking out the sides. That must be done, or the rain fly rests against the tent sides, and the bathtub bottom of the tent bows in, not letting you get the full square footage inside. After it was set up, i liked it, but if camping on rock, gonna be hard to stake that tent.

It only has 1 door. I do not mind that so much since it cuts down the weight, but since the only outside porch storage is right there in front of the only door,, you have to go over top of your gear that is stored there, to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Plenty of room inside for sleeping though. I don't know if I will like the longer/narrower/tapered shape, since I have always used dome tents until I try it. I think I could store some gear at the foot end of the tent inside easily instead of all of it on the porch.

Most of the concerns faded a little when i lifted the tent up after packed. That sucker is light! Beats my other tent by 4 lb. REI had them on sale 1/2 price a week ago or so.

Hey, Wick, if you find yourself camped on rock, just get some brick sized rocks and wrap the guy lines around those. Works great and gives you a taut pitch even without stakes.

I thought about that and have seen pics of people anchoring with logs and rocks. It should work until the wind blows!

I need to buy more rope.

This is true. Alps Mountaineering tents have excellent materials and construction, great prices, but I wish they had some more basic and sensible designs. Their slanted walls result in huge vestibules that take up a lot of space. They seem to stick with old designs for a long time. Great customer service.

I've had this tent for a while. I LOVE it. It is very easy to set up and extremely light. I think it is only 2 or 3 pounds. It is good for two adults but a little cozy. For a couple, it is perfect.

I like to set it up without the fly completely attached and look at the stars. If it starts to rain, it is fast and easy to finish setting up the fly
