I am just inquisitive about how others on this site fish up north. If I don't learn something new every day I might as well be dead.

You sound like a competitive type of person, I'm sure you will do well up there again this year :) People say it is better to be lucky than good, I tell them it is better to be good and lucky.....

I think Mike would be an outstanding angler at any fish he decides to set his mind to. He just happens to have a passion for smallmouths. If he set his drive on Lakers I bet he would probably excel at them in short order.

There is no question it is fun being high hook. When I go with others who are maybe a bit of a noob I try and help them out as much as I can. But there is a line.........when I go offshore bottom fishing I have written literally pages of email material and distributed to the guys going all with the intent of helping them out, holding nothing back.

But alas, in the end I sometimes sense some resentment. A few times I have caught as much as 1/2 the total catch (out of 6 guys total) and of course those fish went home with me. So yea, it can be fun to be high hook but it can come at a price (even though you did your best to see that your pals caught fish to > can't win ;-)

Never heard the phrase high hook before, but from what I can tell this means that you caught more than the next person. Basically it comes down to experience and being a student of the sport and always trying to learn. If you put in the dedication it will pay off at the end of the line.

ya we did do good last year :) :) oh you want to see the slide show again LOL . i'm just having fun with mike we all know mikey walks the walk ! when i'm on a BW trip i dont care who catches the fish if anything seeing the new younger guys do good is awesome and gets them hooked. but yes i have my time ;);)
