Getting ready to start fishing the Miss for walleye. I usually fish my home lock and dam in Hampton Illinois or le Clair iowa.. Might go up to Clinton or Belview.. Every now and then trips up to lynxville and De soto dams. In Wisconsin. 90% of the time I just walk down from the Hampton dam and fish from shore. .. Can leave the house and be fishing in 20 minutes. Drive and walk. Actually my best spot is from shore.
Anyone else fish for eyes on big muddy..?

I grew up fishing for them on smaller interior rivers in northern IA. However now I live within a bike ride of the Miss south of Muscatine so I'll try here eventually

I fish pool 2 up here in St Paul a lot in the spring. Pool 2 is open for walleye year round but its all catch and release for walleye and bass.

I've got some shore spots where you can do REALLY well in early spring up until maybe mid may. I've had days where I'd make 5 casts and nail 5 quality walleye in a row. Biggest is around 26" with MANY low 20's fish.

There is very much an art to fishing that stretch of river from shore and it takes some time to learn how to do it well.

Sometimes Lynxville, sometimes Genoa. My BIL hits Genoa a lot and knows the good spots.

It depends. I've got fish all day long and in all weather conditions. My best day was bright and sunny and in the middle of the afternoon. Although I'd say overall my best time has been early evening until a little before dark.

I haven't fish a lot after dark because most of the spots require a pretty good hike to get to and I don't want to be doing that hike in the dark if I don't have to. You can run into a lot of interesting characters along the river in the Twin Cities and its best to meet them in the daylight. I have however fished after dark a little and numbers seem to go down but size tends to go up. You just have to change where you fish and start looking back further into backwater areas as fish move into them to feed at night. Typically I fish in areas just out of the main river current that lead to the backwater feeding areas. Fish will be there all day long and its more consistent throughout the spring. The backwater areas are more reliant on water levels being high in the spring for the best fishing to occur.

I spend 30+ days a year on pool 2. The fishing is better just before/after dusk, just speaking generally over time. But some of my very best days have come trolling shore lines, sunny, middle of the afternoon.

This year I added an 1963 alumacraft 14-footer to my fleet, it's going to spend all summer on the roof of my truck just ready to go. Planning to use the beach at Bohemian Flats to launch and start exploring pool 1.
