Curious what Copia visitors purchased, if anything. I was not planning on getting anything, but I bought Jerry's new CD and a Werner carbon yak paddle. Swift unveiled a new Yost designed solo called a Cruiser, and I want it! The 4 grand it would cost, however, says no!

I saw that Swift Cruiser too and had to mop up my drool! I was a good boy this year.....some BDB's and assorted Cache Lake goodies. Lilcowdoc got the same plus a book, t-shirt, Trailshot water filter and a Frost River cribbage board.
"What could happen?"

This was my first time as well, and I was pretty restrained. Went back and forth on the Werner paddle and finally caved. Was looking forward to see Quetico Parks, but someone told me their budget was cut so they did not make it.
Looking forward to Sunday. No purchases planned, but if I order that Swift Cruiser, I'll get 10% off...

Two pair of Fits Socks and a couple of freeze dried meals. I noticed a number of new vendors this year. Lots of nice looking canoes this year. We also took in the "small" camping trailer show next door. Jeez, they don't give those things away. One little bitty Airstream was around $50,000.........I'll stick to my tents.
I set a goal of losing 10 lbs. this year. I only have 15 left to lose.

Two Helinox chairs, a pack of Bungee Dealee Bobs from Old Scout and a map of Woodland Caribou Provincial Park from Harlan at Red Lake Outfitters.

We have done a lot of upgrading the last couple years, so really didn't need anything. That being said, we bought a book on WI canoe trails, a new map case, BDB's. Our son was with us, so of course his items ended up in our bag, and on our cc. - a wool hat and the new Msr trail shot. Took in several afternoon talks also.

Got a summer supply of good to go food. A thermarest mini pump. Paddle gloves. Keen slip ons. Nalgene bottle. Wife got some clothing. Had a good talk with bruce ,wabikimi man. Stopped at pizza party but a little under the weather so we left. Went to bike arama. Fun day.

I like to upgrade a little bit every year. Another BB paddle (can't have too many paddles right?), more Dealee Bobs (also can't have too many of those), a NRS Chinook life jacket, a lake trout fishing book by Craig Zarley, and a Sea to Summit cooking pot with nesting mugs.
The Sea to Summit pot and nesting mugs have been intriguing me for years and I finally splurged. I went for it because of the space saving in our packs. Anyone have any experience with these? How are they?

3 McKenzie maps for Quetico and the newest Jerry Vandiver cd.
I spent a lot of time at Swift boats. Took in some good presentations and could not find CCS. Did Dan decide not to do it? The were listed for the show. Maybe I'm just blind.

CCS was past the Swift area across from Northstar, Dave Morlock ran it for Dan.

Does anyone have any more specifics on the new Swift Cruiser? I bought replacement tractor seats for my Sawyer Cruiser from Swift, as it is my understanding Swift purchased the seat and mount design from Sawyer many years back. The seats were identical to the ones I pulled off my canoe, only white. I'm curious if it bears any likeness to the Sawyer Cruiser?

The seat on the one sold at Copia was a carbon slider. Very flat with a thin pad over the butt mold. I tried to look it up on Swift's website, but the Cruiser link goes to the Shearwater model.
Here is a pic of the seat:

Three paddles (kayak, straight shaft, bent shaft), couple compression dry bags, hammock, yoke pads, microfiber towel, pillow and life jacket. Managed to attend all three days without buying a kayak.
Also attended 5 seminars, all of which were worthwhile.

Well done! That's impressive.

Hey Frenchy19, could you post some pics of your shearwater in the solo forum? I'd also like to know if you have skidplates or the foot brace. A review would be very helpful to me. This is a big volume solo tripper and I was disappointed they only had one at the show and it was standing vertical. Thanks for your help. If the canoe gods are with me you'll see one with a "Sold to TomT" sign on it next Copia. :)

HighnDry: "Map and CD."
It's funny but I did the same. I think I've gotten to the point where all I want is a new boat now. In the past I've always walked away from Copia with at least $200 in new stuff. I'm kinda proud of myself. :)

There seemed to be a LOT of people carrying paddles around this year. Wife bought herself a new pfd with decent pockets to store her camera in which dangles around her neck whenever she is around a canoe....a moose might be just around the bend.

Dang, missed you Art!
I got a 280cm Bending Branches Slice double blade for my Wilderness solo. Tried it out today, seems to work pretty well. Kish is rolling pretty quick, it was work going upstream but doable.
Also got a 54" Wenonah Black LIte Elbow and an Old Scout reflector oven. Can't wait to bake up some goodies on this year's trip!

I purchased some of the Rutabaga cam straps (and they were hard to find!) because I always seem to have less than I need. I was ready to make a CCS purchase too but they didn't have what I was looking for on the floor. Oh well, I know the address for the CCS website.
That's it for purchases. I did attend several presentations and enjoyed them all.

Ordered a Northstar Blacklite Magic and purchased a Bending Branches Navigator paddle, a second CCS tarp, the new Jerry Vandiver CD and . Also bought the 2 sets of Harlan's maps for the area of Woodland Caribou that I will be going into for 2 weeks end of June.
03/12/2018 11:38AM
I picked up Jerry's new CD and a CCS Thwart/map holder bag.

Almost picked up a Gransfors Scandinavian Forrest Axe, but resisted even looking at the price, because I knew I would buy one if I did. Got to see both Will Steger's and Kevin Callan's presentations, and they were both great. Then went and drooled over some beautiful canoes.

Only a few more years to retirement. Getting myself set up to spend much of the retirement summers paddling WCPP, Quetico and Wabakimi. Maybe even something in Manitoba. So I thought it better to spend the money while it is still coming in.

Wow, so many bought the new CD, thank you all so much! It actually sold out on the floor and I only had 8 left at the end of it all.
It was a pleasure as usual to hang with you all. Didn't hurt to be hanging with my cute music partners either!
See you on the water.

If you look at the little white box on the front of the canoe it says David Yost designed. It was indeed a very nice looking canoe.

I couldn't resist any more, I bought a new kayak for the first time ever, a Native Ultimate 12. Planning to take it on it's maiden voyage this Sunday in Madison. Also bought more tie down straps, you can really never have enough, and a couple accessories for a friend. Had a great time working the show again.
For those wondering, the crowds seemed (eyeball) a little smaller this year, however, Rutabaga seemed to have sold a LOT more boats this year. Saturday we were insanely busy carrying boats in and out of the exhibit hall and helping customers take their new babies home.

Frenchy19: "Listened to Jerry's band, and, of course, cried during Canoeing With Daddy. Hans Solo's daughter did a great job on accordion on the Bear Barrel Polka! "
Thanks Frenchy19 for the compliment regarding my daughter Amy's accordion performance. She had a great time playing with Jerry, Ashlee, and Amberly and contributing to Jerry's new song. It was also nice to finally meet you as well!
The "Canoeing with Daddy" song seemed to have a similar affect on many in attendance, including me. Very cute, especially if you have canoeing daughters and/or sons as I do. I don't think they could have found a more adorable little girl than Virginia to perform that song at Canoecopia.

Like Frenchy19 and others, I was smitten by Swift's new Cruiser 16.8. I thought the same thing OzarkPaddler; very similar to Sawyer's old Shockwave, but a little deeper.
Like Frenchy19 mentioned, I'd want one too, but the price tag is not in my budget at this time. Nice canoe though and I love to paddle one! I'd also love to see how closely it compares to my Sawyer Shockwave on the water.

Picked up a pair of Chota portage shoes, very comfortable, just hoping better shoelaces will keep them from coming off in deep muddy portages...picked up nice set of laminated maps for Leano Lake entry, WCPP, from Harlan at Red Lake Outfitters.
Look for but did not find: a waterproof daybag, with zipper pocket & chest strap (though Seattle Sports has some online); and a better canoe drop-in seat.
