Hello, I’m getting my feet wet in the canoe life. I’ve been kayaking for a good while now but I think it’s time to switch. I am interested in a solo boat/solo friendly tandem that can handle ozark rivers from the small waterways to the large lazy ends of the big rivers. I am 180lbs@ 6’2”. I take annual 4-5 day trips but pack more like a backpacker, my gear has to fit into my bulkheads of the yak. When not tripping I’d like it to be able to handle day trips with a small child or 40lb dog. Looking for something fairly light also, 55lb or less. If you know of anyone interested in selling something that fits my needs in the general ozark area or able to meet within a few hours or so, let them know I am interested. Thanks!

Tried to email you............ No go; your email envelope (on BWCA) leads nowhere. Your profile tells me little to nothing.
I have a couple of canoes (prices vary) you might be interested in getting more information about. All would handle small child, or dog you described & more.
I live at Lake of the Ozarks area. Plenty of water available for test padding.
I would be willing to drive a little to deliver a sold canoe, but will NOT drive hundreds of miles to "show" prospective buyer canoes I have for sale.

Sounds good. I’m on a phone and having some issues figuring things out. I don’t have the site hiding my email so I will get to a pc asap and figure things out after work. I’m only an hour or so away from the lake so hopefully we can get something rolling.

Do you have any tandem canoes for sale? I live at Lake of the Ozarks as well.

No tandem canoes for sale; my wife and I are dedicated solo canoe paddlers.
I suggest you do a search on craiglist Missouri & Arkansas.
You could also search BWCA, and Paddling.net for sale ads.
I have a mini fleet of solos that I can offer for sale; if we could agree on pricing.

There is a clean looking Adirondack for sale in the St Louis Craigslist right now."
That Adirondack would be hard to solo from unless you put a center seat in with those tractor seats. I've owned Adirondacks and paddled them extensively solo and tandem but mine had cane or web seats. Easier to paddle turned around. Nice boat, but....
I also noticed a Galyan's Woodsman III. Same boat as the old Bell Northwind royalex. Easy to solo if you put a seat or kneeling thwart in right about where that rear thwart is. I sold mine to Dedgrass here on the site. He uses it to paddle his grandson and to fish from as well as river trips. I bet you could get the seller to knock a C-note or two off?
Woodsman III

Yeah I am passing on the Adirondack, more so for the other guy above.
I saw the Galyan’s but got a bit confused on all the different ones and didn’t want to get burned buying the wrong one.
On another note there is a Ultra Light Prism for $1800 any thoughts if that’s a fair price? If it is that’s a bit out of my price range. This canoe business is high pressure everyone seems to sell so fast.

Did that liveone2wheels@outlook.com address work for you?

ozarkpaddler: "Having owned and paddled a Bell Northwind 16, that is definitely one. Here's my old one I modified with 3 seats. I can tell you you would not get "Burned!"
"
Could you point me anywhere as to how to add a seat for solo? I’m doing some digging now but haven’t found anything yet.

As I primarily kneel, I like my center seat about 1' back of center. If you sit, probably 6-8" behind center. You can get dowel seat drops or hanger seat drops at Ed's canoe gear.
Ed's Canoe
Or, I probably have a couple hangers I'd send you for postage? Easy as measuring 3 times and drilling holes and installing.

That site is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you very much, this empowers me to not be so picky knowing I can get supplies.

Buysomerice: "Snagged a Mad River Guide. Price was right and it was very nice condition. Seems like a good boat for my area. So stoked to get it on the water!
"
Wow, nice buy! Never saw one that color? The shallow V hull on the Mad River has some "Wiggliness" as it likes to rest on one or the other "V." Rest assured, secondary stability is very good, it tends to "Park" on one of those "V's." The Guide will get out there and haul a load. My wife would go nuts over that color!

Thanks! I know it’s risky buying before paddling something but I have no way to compare what I do and don’t like since I’ve only paddle big rental metal canoes. So ignorance is bliss I suppose. Also have a trip down on the Buffalo this May so it’s nice having this monkey off my back and can now start planning accordingly. My wife’s first words where “ooooh purple!” Followed by “oooo the wood is pretty.” I definitely agree on the wood comment and hope I get to keep the man card.

Where did you find it?
You know don't you; pink & purple canoes are even faster than red canoes.
If the purple color, or the boat model doesn't work out for you; I know a prospective buyer.
Me.
Suggestion: Don't get your upper body weight too far out over the gunwales unless you have a decent brace. Keep your head in the boat until you have some seat time in it.
Good find, good luck,
BOB

Was on Craigslist for all of one evening, she went quick glad the guy went with me. Good to know on the color I need all the help I can get! I’ll keep you in mind if she dumps me too much!
Thanks for the advice, hopefully the boat and I get to know each other and mesh well. I’ve heard that throwing some wieght in her even just messing around helps so I will be doing that. Now is the waiting game for a sunny day on the weekend!

Heya, I'm also in the market for a used solo for tripping (both short and long) with my 40lb dog, What have you got available, what are you selling them for, and how far are you willing to drive a sold canoe?
