There will be road construction from 8th Street in Two Harbors up to the SilverCreek Tunnel. This road work will start in May. So expect slow traffic in that area.

Good to know and plan for a delay. Thanks for the heads-up! Every year or every other year-- repairs or construction happening on some stretch of Hwy 61. Or so it seems.
It's a road to a happy place so I'll endure 10-minute delay(s) for those one lane closures with uncharacteristic patience.

In 2019 they are going to start to redo the "Can of Worms" on I35 in Duluth. So that will be even more fun than this.

Thanks for the update...also, expect a major project at the 35E/35W split by Forest Lake, another major project in Pine County on 35 which will result in a very big migraine for users of the TH 70 bridge at Rock Creek, two Duluth local jobs which will result in heavier traffic on the main route...one being TH 194 and the other being a complete rebuild of Superior Street. Most of these projects are multi-year, so the fun just never ends:) Those are just the ones that come to mind as they've bid recently, I'm sure there's plenty others. We're all in a hurry to get "up north" but PLEASE SLOW DOWN and pay attention in all construction zones.

Seems like a good year to go out through Ely, or is there construction on a he way there also?

Glad I head north at 11th. The time line of this construction is at the end of this article. Hopefully after the changes it won’t be such of a traffic bottle neck there during weekends.

You can always count on something on 61. Our annual SHT day trips outing will be based out of JR Magney this year, after 15 years out of Split Rock. Will be nice to go through those construction areas on only our first day and last, rather than twice daily when headed to various trailheads.

Tell me, is there any better or more joyous feeling than when you crest the hill north of Betty's pies, heading south, and see nothing but a train of taillights as far as the eye can see...knowing full well that Betty's is standing room only for the next 6 hours and all out of coconut crème and chocolate pie...and unless your vehicle floats or can Baja through boreal forest there just ain't a damn thing you can do but enjoy the scenery and crank the tunes (Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, please!)?? Ahh..

Especially if you have already filled your belly with a far superior slice of pie... from Rustic Inn.
