The permit is $10. Camping fees are $16 per person for the entire trip. Two people would be $42 total and three people would be $58 total.

Do I have to pay for anything else beside the fishing license? I'll bring my own food, kayak and camping gear. Again, thanks.

Just live bait if you prefer to fish with it.

I don't have to buy the package deal that the BWCA offers , is that correct?

After gear and supplies, just the permit. The $10 plus $16/person is full adult in season rate, and for as many nights as you want to stay. Youth, senior, annual pass, off season, etc. here:. Fees

I am not clear what your mean with "package deal". The BWCA is managed by the government with rules and regulations clearly defined. They sell permits through the ranger stations in the area and through a central reservation system. Outfitters are private businesses that can obtain permits for you and sell/rent equipment and support services. To my understanding there are no packages with the government, unless you are referring to the discount rates billconner mentions. Outfitters do offer package deals for complete outfitting and partial outfitting options. While I have had my own gear for some time I find using the outfitters for lodging, showers, parking, and/or tow are positives.
And welcome to our forum. New arrivals are often encouraged to become familiar with the various tools offered. You indicate you will be kayaking. There is a special interest forum that can give you lots of helpful input on kayaking in the BWCA. You will likely get some input advising it is canoe country for a reason. While kayaks are welcome and widely used, they do have disadvantages for the multiple portages most trips require. kayak forum

Yep, there are no packages needed to enter the park. Just the permit mentioned above. All outfitters put together packages that include canoe rental, food, tents, etc for people that need some of those things. If you have all your own stuff, you just need to pick up your permit, watch the informational video, and head in.

When reserving your permit for a given entry point, you'll have to decide where to pick it up. The default online is the nearest forest service office which doesn't have great hours. I change it to an outfitter nearby that I know is open longer hours.

Recreation.gov

Look for Superior National Forest MN. Category is Permits, Choose Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (Reservations), find Permits and Wilderness, Overnite Paddle. Choose your date check availability.
