In December,I retired from driving a school bus after 24 years. Last 5 were part time. On Monday last, I sold my paper route after 25 years of ownership. I had cut back on the papers the last few years and was working about half time. Now that has come to an end. A 1990 Caravan and 2005 Caravan have been sold and by noon Wednesday, both will have been towed to their final resting place as used parts and then crushed. No one would ever want to drive an old paper van.

Congratulations! Since I retired I’ve forgotten how to set an alarm clock! I do wake up naturally by 10:00am though in time to watch “The Price is Right” on TV. The part where they spin that giant wheel for prizes combined with morning coffee is the most heart racing part of my day! Good luck!

Happy retirement and for me going on 8 years. There is only one drawback-somehow the father time clock picks up speed and boy the years go bye faster-way too fast.
Always kidded we need a Old folks home for paddlers up by the BWCA. A place we could go for another lap around the fishing hole.
Enjoy and DO-so many Don't. They sit around and get out of condition.

That's great, but also kind of funny as I 'retired' from my job in technical sales to drive a school bus. I've been doing that for a year and I'll tell you...having 3 months off in the summer is the best! Last summer I spent 6 weeks camping/canoeing, and this summer I've got that much if not more already planned. 3 weeks out west and another 3 canoeing. Life is good.

I think you have a great idea withe the retirement home Pinetree, I'll sign the dotted line today! And, yes, the days and years are spinning by in a blur since retirement.
I'm a retired teacher and I recently was asked to take a long-term sub position for a 4th grade class. Five weeks and I loved it! But I was asleep by 8 each night. I love being retired, and I love subbing when I get the chance - best of both worlds. I REALLY love being able to canoe in the fall!

After 35 years in the Nursing game I have 9 shifts left to go. Lately I have been wandering around humming that song from Johnny Paycheck, "Take this job and shove it". FRED

Thanks for the nice remarks: Regarding father time, here is just more proof that time actually does speed up as we get older. Don't doubt this as fact. Think of walking the plank--the first 3 steps are not so bad, but just wait until the last 3 await your taking.

Retirement? Whats that?
I love what I do so I will probably just keep on doing it.............Probably have to slow down sooner or later. Have to get the kid through Grad school first.
But who knows what a day may bring?

Congrats! Retirement can be an awesome gig if you are ready for it. If you have health, relationships, interests and enough money to live on without worrying too much you have indeed hit the sweet spot in life. We are there now and it is nothing but fun.
We get to winter in Arizona, hike in the mountains and desert and then return to Minnesota to go canoeing any number of times. No shortage of things to do. As old Neil said "its better to burn out than to fade away."

35 years all night shifts. Some big adjustments to be made. Only get paid once a month, actually sleeping in the same bed as my wife, spending time with my wife [may actually get caught up on her "honey do list]", haveing to go to all the family gatherings I have cleverly avoided for years, maybe eating someone else's cooking for a change, haveing all week to get stuff done in stead of trying to get it all done on weekends, yup a lot of changes. Congratulations BWCAWDan on a hard-earned retirement!
Heheheh, I hope I can have a shift "Countdown" myself one of these days? 31 years in Nursing for me not counting the 6 before as a nurse assistant, ER Tech, etc. CONGRATS to you too, Fred, on a well earned retirement!

You and me, brother.
I, too, have at least one to get to the scholastic finish line.
I am having even more fun now than I did 20 years ago so no reason to quit!

Turning 55 in June and have longevity in my family grandparents all lived into 90's and 100's. I have been stepping back in a few of my "jobs" just stepped down as asst. fire chief this week but staying on as a firefighter (volunteer) with the local village. Still coach high school wrestling, build and work on race cars (dirt Modified) with friends, and work (production supervisor) at a small stainless steel weld shop would love to retire from work but health insurance scares me. I do have a good nest egg built up.

Retired 2 years from health care. Decided to pull the plug when the knees and back started to go. Will get the full effect when my wife retires in July.
Bought a lighter canoe, NorthStar 17 from Piragis. Almost cried when I sold my SR18.5.
A little advice to those on the edge: If health issues are starting to mount and you can't decide to or not, go for it. What the financial planners never tell you is people generally don't have really good health after 85, ergo, they don't spend much money doing things outside of buying Medicare supplements. So no, a 90 year old doesn't need all "that" money they tell you to have.

"Did you bring the coffee?" "No. I thought you were."
