Temps are supposed to be well above average from here on out. I wouldn't give up yet. My Permit is for May 11th and I'm treating it as if the ice will be out.

Curt, ya got the time. Just pick a general location, Grand Marais, Tofte, Ely, camp out a nite and check what EP's are open at a Ranger Station. Been doing that since I retired.

thanks ken, that's my plan, no permit, no worries, right now i am looking snf lakes with camping, along the echo trail. i want to paddle the islands of western burntside one day as well. so much to do, with so many places.
jeanette lake area is on my list as well as the fenske, to bass loop.
i don't plan on a permit this spring, oh yea, triangle lake for a night or two as well.
may 19th is the depart date.

Lots of ice in Duluth harbor today. Most Gunflint Trail lakes still have 3+’ of ice covered by snow.
