Dad and I will be heading to wood lake early June, we are hoping to get into some good eater walleye and whatever else bites. We will be taking fake bait and live leeches. Any tips would be greatly appreciated (lure choice/depth and water temp/portable fish finder useful?)

Focus on rocky shorelines and points and target 8' to 15' of water. Anchor a little deeper and cast toward shore with a slip bobber rig, plain hook, and live leech. Always look for and fish the windy, wavy, shorelines where you think "Will my anchor hold?" If your bait is within a few feet of the bottom, walleyes will be unable to resist.

Just be sure to leave some for the other guys coming in mid-June!

Fish in 12-18 feet of water, so yes a depth finder is useful. Jigs or spinners tipped with leeches, or slip bobbers with leeches works good. Dragging a Rapala works for Walleye, Pike or Bass.

Walleyes in the wood, or SMB?

Thanks guys for the tips, hopefully we can get on a few. We do plan to hopefully get a fish finder before we go, looking at the garmin striker 4 with the portable kit. We’ll be hitting wood, hula, good, possibly Indiana and basswood (wind bay likely), then dropping into wind and then moose. We’ll either paddle back and fish moose a bit or get a tow. Should be a good trip I’m hoping.
