Have you picked out a name for your pet fish yet? Thats the same one you caught last week and the week before that LOL.

Water is up? A bit off color? Are the leaves even budding yet? Brrrrrr...........

I call him guppy :)

Water levels are starting to recede. Would still like to see about a 9 inch drop in level. The clarity is starting to look really good. We had freeze warnings here this morning. I think it was 31 when I got up. They say it will hit 70 by the end of the day. Maybe 80 on Wednesday? Things are going to heat up fast. When that happens you know rain isn't far behind :(

I am starting to rethink the whole "extending the fish far out in order to make it look bigger" thing.

I had that happen to me at a fish camp we used to go to at Sioux Lookout Ontario and the owner wanted to get pics of me and my buddy and post them on a bulletin board. He always insisted that I hold the fish way out and I asked why.........he replied to "make it look bigger". I was aghast and adamantly refused and have hence always been cognizant of doing it and critical of others doing it.

But, maybe thats not always the intention (making the fish appear bigger than it really is) . Maybe it just makes for a nice picture. Certainly QM's picture is stunning.........beautiful fish, nicely colored and a nice day. Plus there can be no doubt its a dandy fish, particularly from a rather mid sized river.

I dunno, whats better, catching 6 and 7lb walleyes that look like 4 and 5lbers...........or catching 4 and 5lb walleye and have them look like 7 or 8 ;-)

Maybe there is a compromise there somewhere? Hmmmmm.

I must have been a little too excited about catching my first big smallmouth of the year. This fish did qualify as a "FISH OHIO" smallmouth. It is a trophy sized fish for the Great Miami River in Ohio.

The name comes from a song that has a line in it that said " like disco lemonade ". The song was popular when I first started using the BooYah chartreuse double willow blade spinnerbait. Then about every time I hooked into a nice smallie on that trip I would sing " it's like disco lemonade ". Hence the name. 20 years later I'm still singing the song up in Quetico.
In case you never heard the song before here is a link.....

You look like a happy camper. Whats the fight of a sturgeon like? Somehow I am envisioning a nurse shark..........Big and powerful but basically a big wet blanket which makes a few runs and keeps wanting to get back to bottom but eventually you manage to drag the thing up. Is it like that or different? Never caught one.

I like holding the fish out also, yes we could hold fish close to our head and get a decent pic but the whole focus is on the fish. the only reason the pic is taken is because the fish. when extended we get a great view of color, shape, and and other details with our head just in the background for bragging purposes. OH YEAH and it does make fish look bigger :)

I'm a happy camper indeed. Sturgeon actually put up one hell of a fight IMO. To be honest, I probably had another 3 hooked but they twist and turn on themselves, sometimes putting the hook in one of their fins, they breach and shake the lure out like a bass, and they want to stay DOWN and away from shore so it's really a matter of tiring them out. I've probably caught 20 or so and the big ones often make a few runs away from shore before getting tired enough to be netted. My catfish/sturgeon rig has a heavy Abu Garcia 6600 baitcaster reel with 60 lb. braided line.

Lots of fun to fight and they're really a neat fish to hold. I've always appreciated the fact that the fish I'm catching is older than I am. I remember being blown away by that fact when I learned how slowly bass grow in the BWCA/Quetico.
