Has anyone here experienced success with the new budget Hero 2018?
I think it has promise as a tripping action camera. It does not have all the bells and whistles that the Hero 5/6 have, but for simple tripping videos it looks like it would fill the ticket nicely.

Let me get back to you in a month and a half - my daughter has one and hasn't used it much yet, but plans to use it on our trip at the beginning of July.

I think that will be too late! I'm trying to decide on one before my 13 June entry. But, thanks.

My opinion it’s worth $200 compared to the Session for the screen alone.

However if it doesn’t have the stabilization software that the 6 has, then it’s worth spending the extra $200.

Edit: my setup will be the Session on my head when fishing. 6 for anything moving. Like portaging, rowing, night shots, etc

That's what I needed - your back-up. Consider it done.

I don’t have that one but I would like to respond. I have the original GoPro camera, and a Session GoPro.

Last year I bought the smaller session camera for vacation trip. It is awesome in so many ways. I took many videos with it and used the GoPro editing software to fit them in with my pictures. The physical size is 1” by 1” square, and is fully waterproof. I found the battery life is at about 2 1/2 hours. The memory card also give me about 2 1/2 hours of recording time. There is no back screen to view what you are filming. In my opinion back screen use power. I don’t care to see what I’m filming, because I edit it anyway post filming. I also bought the extender stick to record above crowds or use as a selfie stick. Before you pull the trigger you need to look at the Session GoPro camera.

On my upcoming trip I plan on filming my fishing using a head harness, attached to a fishing rod, landing net, and the selfie stick to get underwater shots.

I already have the Hero 3+ Black and am familiar with all the ramifications of Go Pro.
I hate and despise the Hero 3. If anybody wants it - give me 50 bucks.
It seems in my knife making, photography is about 25% of my business with my photos and you tube channel.
To not see what I am filming and photographing with my Go Pro 3 is utterly frustrating.
For the price and the ease offered with the touch screen and ability to see what I'm recording, I like the idea of the Hero 2018.
The image stabilization and linear capabilities of the Hero 5 are better - but more money.
I just want something streamlined for easy use and be able to concentrate on big fish and not worry about having everything set-up just right.
And it has voice command!
If I have it on a head set and catch a fish, all I do is say, "Go Pro - start recording!" and it begins recording. I like that. Then I say, "Go Pro - stop recording."
I still think I'm going to get one and I think I'll be happy.

I hope I get to see that video.

I was attempting to save a hundred bucks with this Hero 2018 but just a quick Google search and I found numerous places that now have the Hero 5 Black on sale for 249 down from 299.
So - Hero 5 Black it is. Better image stabilization, more pronounced color saturation and both super view and linear view, as well as other video resolution choices, wifi, gps, etc.
I think I like it already.
