I picked up a used Superior 1 pack. Is there a way to tell the age? Seems to be in good shape with no holes, just some scratches on buckles.

Older GG packs were made with 1000D Cordura and said "Made in USA" on the label. Later they went to a lesser material and had to drop the "Made in USA" as they no longer were. Other than that there is no way to date them that I know of. Pictures of the label and material would help.

This might be an overly simplified answer, but if the pack is in decent shape, does the age matter?

They did have a run of "Made in USA" Superior One packs around 2014. 500D blue cloth, with red handles and made in USA stitched on the label.

I think I found run date on tag 121597. This pack is in excellent shape I picked it up for 50.00 bucks at a used gear place. The first canoe pack I have seen here in North Carolina. I think that was a pretty good price.

My 30 year old pack has four compression straps on each side and my two 18 year old packs have only three compression straps on each side. They are all great packs though. I would buy a used one for $50 in a heartbeat.

I think all the older ones were green and I liked the older ones better than the new models which are still good.

Also a note-I have had a few plastic snaps break over the years. Call them and they will ship a new one for you the next day. FREE.

My bag has 4 compression straps on the side. The bag was laying in the floor of a used gear place, and believe it or not I don't think they new what they had. When she said 50.00 I about jerked here arm off she said it had been laying in the store for a couple of months.
