Well the Sherpa had to move for his job last week and got a gig testing engines in West Palm Beach, Florida and started on Monday this last week. He is excited as his degree is in Aerospace Engineering and is in his last assignment before Pratt & Whitney decides his final assignment. Think he is finding out that Florida is a little different than Maine or Connecticut.

Thursday late Ethan flew into DSM and his sister picked him up and then today my middle child received her Doctorate as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Now we have to get her moved to Sioux Falls to begin her four years of residency at Sanford Medical Center. Selena has decided that she wants to be a Psychiatrist.

Pictured is my oldest daughter Mallory, wife Julie, Doctor Selena, Ethan the Sherpa, and KevinL.

In the morning, Ethan and I are heading north. Spending the night at VNO and taking a short trip into LIS North on Sunday and coming out Nina Moose next Saturday. Going to drive back to MSP and spend the night so that mom and the sisters can visit with Ethan before he fly’s out a week from Sunday.

Mom and Dad are very proud of all of our kids, but makes dad proud that his son still wants to canoe trip with the old man.

Hmmm, maybe I'll mosey up the trail and see if I can find ya. Gotta mow quick in the morning... Then I'm off...
BTW: KevinL is a pretty smart cookie himself. Kids got some good genes.

Very nice! It's ok to brag about those major accomplishments, and the canoe trip too.

Welcome to sunny south Florida........its a cool gig once you get used to it. Especially in February (Ho-hum, its another beautiful day).

The outdoors stuff centers primarily around fishing and it can be fantastic........or not. The learning curve can be a little tough but if you persevere the rewards are HUGE (literally ;-)

Paddling opportunities are also quite good especially on the other side of the state in the ten thousand islands. Couple that with excellent fishing and some good trips can be had.

Check out the forum "Glades going deep" and there is much info there on paddling the entire eco system.

I have spent considerable time backcountry fishing out of a flats type boat in the park and a few years back picked up an expedition style canoe to handle the outside waters but just haven't carved out the time to do the once a year trip I had envisioned. Alas, the best laid plans of mice and men.

Don't worry about the gators. They have a brain about the size of a walnut and haven't figured out yet they can knock you out of a boat. Just don't go swimming.......that they understand. Look me up next winter at one of the many street art shows which abound practically every weekend in South Florida. Mention that you are a BWCA member and get a dollar off anything.

KevinL is also a pretty good all-around guy I think--helped me portage in one day at Round Lake EP when the portage was overloaded with people and getting thru was not something to look forward to--Memorial Day zone two years ago--thanks again, Kevin!

Made it home tonight finally. Had to come out one day early after I decided to stick my knife in my hand. Super glue would not stop the bleeding so I had to put some staples into my hand. Got to ER in Ely and the Doc said I did a good job and didn't need to do anything else unless I didn't want the staples in the back side of my hand. He put 5 stiches in. Glad that I had the staples.

Ethan caught a nice northern. I'll post a pic in the fishing section.

Summer classes start tomorrow :(
