All campers should watch out for severe storms tonight and over the the next few days. Storms should move in to the bwca somewhere around 10:00 tonight. Stay sky aware and be safe.

Oh crap, it's going to be a rocky night for sure. Sleep is overrated!

Nothing yet here on White Iron Lake outside of Ely at midnight but Accuweather says that it will hit in 10 minutes and that looks right from the radar.

We're at our cabin and put the canoes inside for the night. Some of our neighbors lost power in the big storm Friday morning and just got it back this morning. So power was out for 72 hours. But there's a lot of daylight and people ran generators for fridges. We were lucky and our power is from Minnesota Power and it came back up quickly. Lake County Power wasn't so lucky.

Hoping for a break tomorrow morning to do some paddling and then expect rain again in the afternoon. Next week we're planning to head in for a few day trip with some great nephews. I don't mind rain but hope they have a good first experience.

FYI, storm was meh in Ely. Fair bit of rain but not much wind or really strong thunder. Loon just called. Gonna go paddle on White Iron.

Appreciate the warning, Peterfishes21, but that's three threads now warning bwca campers about storms... which is nice, but not that logical as most campers don't have Internet/view the message board while camping.

Hi Muddyfeet,

Sorry about he multiple threads but I'm planning on being a meteorologist. In regards to this latest post it looks like I was right, as of now there's a severe thunderstorm in the middle of the BWCA. I understand that there's no internet in the BWCA, I just like to keep the public informed. I plan to work in the BWCA next summer as an interpreter for the Boy Scouts. Thank you for the advise.

Definitely a big downpour in Ely the morning of the 4th. Wind was not too high and it cleared up in time for the Ely parade, carnival, and fireworks. In between I paddled my solo and swam. After the fireworks, we laid down on the docks and enjoyed the stars.
