I'm not a facebooky guy, but I was able to see the KARE 11 clip so I understand their planned route. Can you post a link to their InReach map page here? I'd like to follow along especially their canoe leg portion.
Looks like a fun adventure!
Thanks,
BeaV

BeaV- it's shocking you don't do facebook!!! :O)
Anyways- here it is - Stephen Schreader Inreach
The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Thanks WW. Beav, I'm doing a re-supply on the 19th and have a permit for two, flying solo right now. Meeting them at Upper Basswood Falls if you want to run up for an over night.

Best of luck to them. Quite a journey and adventure. Did they post their proposed route through the BWCA anywhere? It would be cool if any of us that are also traveling on their proposed route in the BWCA at that time could say hi and give them some encouragement.

They're paddling from International Falls to Grand Portage along the border. If you follow the inreach link you can see where they are on the entire route.

Cinna is with Steve, Dio,(Eli's dog) will be going on the paddling and hiking portion. Eli didn't feel trained enough to pull Dio all the way to I Falls.

Yup, thanks WhiteWolf, now I can see where they're traveling! And I just missed them by a day as I was pedaling that same bike trail between Stacy and North Branch this weekend.
Interesting thought Arcola...

I'd be fine with a last minute okie dokie. Fall lake EP, Solo boats. Driving up on Sat., going in on Sun., coming out Monday(providing they aren't behind a day.)

I'm gonna be watching! :) They're taking a day of rest tomorrow, and even though they are competent paddlers they won't make the route in 4 days like you. ;) My son is in a Trillium and Steve is in a Northwind Solo/ with dogs to boot. If they beat me there they'll wait; I'm bringing in Steak.

Delivered a re-supply Saturday at Basswood Falls. Boy did they like the hamburger, bacon cheese, and sweet corn I brought in. It's all been eaten and the grease levels restocked.

Looks like the high energy food boosted yesterday's paddle- made good progress yesterday.
FYI- I received intel on the Pigeon River yesterday. Water levels very low but still navigable. Will have to walk canoe down through some of the English Rapids area. The Grand Portage is not muddy- great news!

Thanks for the info BeaV. The trip has been blessed so far; no rain(they're praying for it), no bad winds, and an Eagle has been flying with them since they left I Falls. I bring their packs and pick up the boats at GP Saturday. They had a 14hr day last week that afforded Sunday as a full day of rest. Yesterday at 12 hrs as you mentioned was fueled by grease. :)

After a capsize on Gunflint, the remainder was navigated sans the maps, and as BeaV pointed out very little water in the Pigeon. :) Low bugs, cool weather and happy souls.
They did like the Pizza in the end.

Congrats to them for completing this leg of the trip!
Lost maps- maybe this explains why they appeared to be on the wrong track when they tried getting out of Gunflint Lake.

Yup, that's when it happened. :0
Surfing 2 foot rollers and Steve's boat vaned on him; He did a gunnel brace and over he went. Eli did a boat over boat and got him and his dog back in. After a brief search the maps were gone. Just back from the Gunflint camp you can see two pings close together.
