Are there any public launch sites on the St. Croix River between Marine and the Boom Site launch at Stillwater?

Nope. It's like being in a Canyon. The only way out on public land would be at the High Bridge, and the hike out is a steep up hill hike/ portage to the road.

I was just looking at Arcola Day Use Area pictures to see how steep of a portage that would be. It’s a long way down!

Well, it's not between but, just a mile or two north of marine on the St. Croix is William O'brien state park. Was just there yesterday taking out. Paddled from interstate park.

Thanks for the replies. I usually go to either Osceola or Log House. The routine is to paddle upstream for 2-3 miles then back down depending on the wind and current. The stretch between Marine and the high bridge looks interesting but it means going downstream first then up against the current.

Sounds like you just need a paddle partner and a 2nd vehicle.

If not for another vehicle, you might consider paddling the namekagon/upper st. croix river. There are shuttle services available. I think if you do a google search you'll find what you need.

If you fish, you probably wouldn't have to talk to hard to talk me into going with you some time. I have a canoe trailer too.

Jack. I'm sure you are aware of the landing on the Wisconsin side just upstream of Marine called Sunset. There is an area downstream from Marine that I have wanted to explore. It's on the Wisconsin side and is called (on the Delorme atlas) St. Croix Islands Wildlife Area. It looks very interesting and the atlas shows a boat access there but I have never been able to find it. Perhaps, as the previous poster suggested, we should plan a trip using a shuttle and check it out. I'm recovering well from my surgery and hopeful that I will be able to get in some paddling while we still have liquid water.

There is a canoe Landing owned and maintained by the Wisconsin DNR between Somerset landing and the High Bridge. It is approximately three-quarters of a mile north of the High Bridge on the Wisconsin side just above the
Rice Lake Flats. This is not a boat launch but strictly a landing for canoes only. It can be located on the st. Croix County plat book or do a Google search for st. Croix County WG Xtreme and look for it on the map it's on Rice Lake Road

More good stuff - Thanks.

Bill, the St. Croix Islands Wildlife Area is the area I'm interested in going to. I think the landing above Marine is Somerset landing. I was able to locate the landing nooneuno talks about on Rice Lake Road on google maps. It may be the one you refer to. Looks like a good possibility. Thanks for the info, nooneuno.

analyzer, thanks. I've been to the Danbury area a couple of times. For a quick day trip I like to stay south of Taylors Falls. I have a fish pole that I use to dangle stuff in the water...

Arcola, I've been to the high bridge via the overland route. Definitely not a place I'd want to portage :)
