Can't make it to the BWCA this summer. So I'm planning for next year. Probably September. Have a few questions for anyone willing to offer advice. Thanks in advance.

1. EP 24 or 25?

2. Rank the "bays" from most to least fishy.
a. Jackfish
b. Pipestone
c. Back
d. W side American pt.
e. E side American pt.
f. S. Washington Island
g. Hoist
h. Wind
i. East of Wind

3. MidSep - How deep would you expect to find walleyes?

4. Any spot you think would be a good bet to set up a 3 day base camp with good fishing nearby?

Thanks again all! Tight lines and smooth canoeing!!!

I'm interested to see what people say. I will be heading up in 2 1/2 weeks from Mudro to Jackfish Bay and basecamping in the no motor zone.

Fished Basswood last year the first week of June. We went in through Pipestone into the non-motorized zone and had a blast catching eyes. Definitely a larger class of fish there than many other BWCA lakes. Had a friend pull a 30 incher out of roughly 40 ft of water in some narrows. The hottest time was at dusk, but in all reality we caught fish whenever we wanted. I know it may be a different time of year that you are going but if you put in the effort you will catch fish.

+1 - I have caught some big ones in Frog of all species. I have not been to pipestone or jackfish so can't comment on those. Back Bay can be very good, I have also had good luck in Hoist and Wind. There are also a couple less obvious places that have produced for my friends and I. Use a topo map in combination with satellite views from Google maps and you can find some really nice spots. The islands in the lake make for some really nice saddle areas to fish.

Good luck!

It is north of wind bay and west of washington island. There are large boulders at the northern part of the bay. A large campsite in the northwest corner of the bay. I have fished it May to Sept. with good results.

I personally fish out a boat a lot and would say I love bayley. I a week base camp on little Merriman and even with no live bait I had a blast. I little thing I have kind of developed is keying on deep sand.

Also an area that is over looked and has a lot of really cool structure is the area from the end of motor zone north to the gull rocks. Paddle thru their with a depth finder and get to be blown away ! God Damnit I love Basswood.
