Does anybody sell canoe portage wheels in Ely? I know Piragis does just looking to see if anyone else does. Thanks!

You stole the answer that I know is right because I bought a set there last year. They do have a good selection of different types. My other go to store is Spirit of the Wilderness. It seems like they have more than just what you use in the BW. But I can’t say that I definitely saw any there this year.

A few weeks ago I saw a really slick design. My buddy's father in law built a single portage wheel device. Think a big squared "U" shape with a wheel at the bottom. The top clamped to the rear grab handle and the other half of the "U" press fit in. His was made with PVC that he filled with expanding foam. He said it works well for him but most of his portaging is done over parking lots and carry in boat landings that aren't as rough as BWCA portages. When the ministry of finance lets me buy a canoe I might try to rig one up. I will see if I can get a picture of it sometime. He said the first wheel he used for a long time was from the front of his grandson's big wheel trike.

That sounds a bit like the one we bought from Piragis but ours has two wheels at the bottom of the U. The canoe slides through and a strap to the seat holds it firmly in place. It’s very solid.

I’d call ahead to Spring Creek. I thought they stopped selling stuff on site but am not sure.
