Hello I’m planning on taking my wife up to the boundary waters Friday, for the first time, and how are the mosquitoes ? It’s supposed to cool down this week I would think that’s going to help

We just got back from six days out and they were minimal. Only had to use bug spray once just at dusk on a site on Polly that was tucked further back in the woods and had no breeze present. Total bug bite count when I came out and got a shower at the outfitters was only four! Possibly an all time low!

That is the news I hoped to see today. We are heading up Saturday for our second trip this year and our first trip in September. After our previous August trips and the hordes of blood suckers at dusk my wife is skeptical that the bugs ever die down.

We always do our long trip up there in late August/early September for this very reason! Your odds of dodging the swarm are a lot better this way :) May you have a gorgeous and bug-free trip!

Just got back Monday night from EP 4 Crab Lake. We had some evenings with absolutely no wind. Around dusk I had 1-2 skeeters buzzing around for a few minutes but that was it. Never took the bug spray out.

Just finished a 9 day trip yesterday and agree with 1bogfrog. I never once thought of reaching for my bug spray, and forget about the bug head net. There were few mosquitos here and there - seemed to vary a lot by area. One portage had a few, the next had not. One portage had deerfly pestering me, but just one. Bugs minimal now.
