posted this in trip planning, but since some of you may not go there as often & I don't want anyone who may be going into the Lake Chain to be unaware...

*****************************************
We received a report this afternoon of a bear on Bridge Lake (north of Lake Four), 0n the campsite in Section 25. The people hung their pack but didn’t get it high enough. At about 10 p.m. the bear came in and tore a hole in the bottom of their pack. It got all of their food except for a few dried meals and their coffee. They were unable to scare it away. They left the site for an hour or so. When they returned the bear was hovering at the edge of the site. The next morning, they noticed a well-worn path from the campsite back into the marsh.

Time to find someone with a BWCA zone bear tag.

I got a message from friends camped on the north arm of Lake Four close to Bridge that they had the bear in camp today (or possibly last night) which got one dinner before they got it to leave. They are still camped on the same site so I'm staying tuned . . .

Got in to Ely today. All the Outfitters are warning folks about a bear on the north side of Lake Three and over to Lake four as mentioned above. The guys at VNO showed me a chewed up bear barrel . The rangers are telling folks to avoid these lakes. Oh well, we go in at Lake One tomorrow. Probably head Southeast.
