A quote is identified by start quote and end quote tags. The problem happens when someone edits a quote to focus on a particular section and accidentally deletes the end quote tag. To see them, do a quote and look at how it inserts the quoted post.
A quick and dirty solution is to start your post with the end quote tag.
The proper solution is for a moderator to edit the offending post and insert the end quote tag. When I did a tutorial on the quick and dirty solution recently, a moderator said that they look for the problem and prefer to fix it themselves. So, I have given up the quick and dirty solution. You could contact a moderator to notify them of problem threads.
A prevention measure would be for the forum software to issue codes to switch to the default text at the start of every post. That would limit the quoting problem to the single post that caused it. An advantage of that approach would be to save the moderators time and effort.
