Just made reservations. The "Canoecopia rate" is $142 per night + tax. Whew!

The past few years it was what, about $110-120?

They should have a few bunkhouse-style rooms, which sleep 8-10 people :)

Hey, that's a GREAT idea (LOL)! That would make us feel right at home, huh?

OK, so if a few people buy these "Bunk Cots" , and rent a couple of the larger rooms, I bet we could fit 8 people in a room. 6 in bunk cots, one on fold out sofa, one in real bed....Three rooms like this, spread over 24 people, that's about $480 divided by about .....$20 a person per night. Though whoever gets the bed might pay a tad more,...or if they're the official renter of the room maybe not....If room renters free, then it's still only about $23/night...

(I joke! I know someone made a comment about sneaking in to the show a few years ago and there was some slack...)

I'm just a one-nighter at a no-tell-motel. I refuse to pay exorbitant prices just for a place to sleep.

I get it, and I've stayed at Days Inn a few miles away and gotten other economically-great arrangements. But $150 isn't all that exorbitant, especially if it's split with someone....and the convenience is more than just a place to sleep. I really like being able to not bring a coat with me, being able to take my purchases and literature back up to my room instead of carrying around. I also like being able to bring my own food and make a sandwich back in my room when I get hungry, rather than the overpriced concessions. Also, no parking fee. And if I get tired, I can run back for a quick snooze. And they have breakfast, which is OK, and coffee around the clock. Maybe most importantly, not having to take a dump in a crowded pubic Alliant Center bathroom (although the washrooms over by the pool area off the lobby are a good alternative too, a little FYI free info there for ya :) .

I wish the Clarion didn't have a two night minimum for Canoecopia. I can only be there one night. I booked at the Sheraton across the parking lot instead for $135.00 plus tax. It came out to something just over $150.00 for the night.

Sheraton's a good option. They have a restaurant (& I think a bar), you won't have to pay parking, and it's not a long walk to the show. I thought I also read they'd been remodeling the past year (unless I'm mistaken). Only downsides I could remember no fridge in room and they might charge for wifi.

I dont mind a drive and parking pass. Under $100 at several properties in the Hilton family and I'm wedded to their loyalty program.

The qj people get a block of rooms over by rutabaga... They also have a couple get to gethers where low keyed food and conversation is had... Good group of guys.
Maybe our group could do that... But we tend to not be low keyed... Haha.

Rumor has it that some bunks opened up in Nojobro's living room. Enough for about 20 people or so and it includes coffee and some bannock in the morning. Nola, did I hear that right? ;-)

WE used to stay at the Sheraton. But one time we tried to make reservations for a state HS basketball game. They quoted $200 a night. Little greedy I thought. So we booked a room at Best Western East Town suites for the bball tournament and liked it so much that we have been going there ever since. They have a nice breakfast included, plus pool, and hot tub. We get a 3 day parking pass at the Alliant. The drive isn't the worst either. Rooms are nice with microwave, refrigerator etc.
btw. If you have never been to Famous Dave's which isn't far from the Alliant....they have a great feed bunk as well. Luv the rib tips....usually have to take some out with us that we can't finish. Can't go wrong there...

Yeah,..Revenue Management 101, as a business you have to take advantage of those high demand periods, because you will also have periods of very low demand. If they just sold some average amount, say $100/night across the calendar for all rooms, regardless of what the market demand is, they’d probably find themselves out of business. Would leave a lot of $ on the table. So I can understand the rates being jacked up during HS basketball time or during big trade shows.
