Given that this lake is difficult to get to and US access has been limited this year, the fish there have probably all have gotten bigger this year. Unlikely that all large smallies were caught prior to your posting.

I caught a few 19” or so smallies when I was there the beginning of June 2019. We did well for walleye as well, although nothing of notable size, mostly 17-21” or so.

Mack was moderately hard to get to. Two mostly full days of traveling via the southeastern route around the edge of the park. That’s why I was surprised to see three other groups there at the same time as us. Perhaps it was a fluke, hard to know. I will say that I didn’t enjoy paddling the Wawiag, although many seem to enjoy it. Fishing was very slow for us except below the rapids section and the scenery was monotonous. Didn’t help that it was cool and misted off and on. I did very much enjoy Mack Lake though. Beautiful lake with varied shoreline topography.

Mack Lake is a entry lake and can be gotten to without any portages. An outfitter can deliver you and his canoe to the creek that comes in from the east. He has a dock and a stack of canoes there now. Like most entry lake it gets lots of trash some times.

I saw the docks, boats, and some canoes on Ross lake I believe that allow pretty easy access into Mack. Perhaps that’s why we encountered several other groups. Slightly disappointing with the amount of effort we spent to get there, but I definitely enjoyed my time on the lake and found the fishing better than average with better than average size.
