My brother and I are doing a first time trip into Quetico. We are are starting at Beaverhouse, then entering into Quetico Lake. We were planning to base camp on Quetico Lake and fish there and any nearby day trip lakes for walleye. We are going June 6-10. Any suggestions on lakes or spots on lakes?

There are plenty of walleye in Quetico Lake. There are some lakes that are exclusively walleye lakes (which means non SMB nor LT) that are kind of in the vicinity but it depends where you base camp.

If you want walleye exclusively I'd keep moving to Jesse Lake. Badwater may be another option.

As far as where the fishing holes are, before my very first Quetico experience I wondered the same thing. The prima facie answer is that the entire Park is a fishing hole. It doesn't matter where you go. That is what I discovered. I believe you will too.

Quetico Lake is a big lake so it can sometimes seem intimidating to find fish with so much area to cover. Spend some time looking at satellite images on sites such as Bing maps. Quetico Lake is a very clear water lake, so you can see many of shallow water structure/reefs that walleye will relate to this time of year. Focus on windswept points and areas of current and you should be able to find some eyes. Smaller lakes might be easier to figure out, but big lakes often offer bigger fish as a reward. You might struggle to find them under 18"... a good problem to have.

Interesting that you consider Jesse exclusively a walleye lake, which according to you means no lakers or smallmouth, when Jesse has both smallmouth and lakers according to both Ontario fisheries and my own experience. I do agree that it is a good walleye lake and also agree that the entire park is great fishing with a few exceptions.

You've caught late trout in Jesse? If so there must be a very deep hole somewhere for them to reside in summer when I tend to be there.

As for SMB, I don't doubt there are some there. I don't doubt there are some in Your or Badwater Lakes either. But unlike other lakes where you often have to battle through numerous SMB snags to find the walleye, the opposite is true in these lakes. That's my point.
