Headed in next week with a few kids and unlike previous years, will be basecamping in this area. Any recommendations for day trip activities to keep the young ones occupied? Falls, cliffs, hiking trails nearby, attractions? Thanks.

If you are on Vista you might go to Misquah and then hike the portage from Misquah to Little Trout. It has a reputation for providing a nice view of the Misquah Hills.

If on Horseshoe you might consider getting up early and exploring the south west parts of the lake in hopes of seeing a moose.

There are a couple of pretty waterfalls on Winchell Lake. Not big, just a refreshing little fall. One is on the south shore, coming out to Tremble Lake. The other is on the north shore, west of site 767.

There's the 'Mondale' site on Gaskin. Google it. Probably will be occupied, but worth a stop to explore this beautiful site if it's open. Site 628.

Otherwise, yes, moose searches in the morning and evening.

+1 for a day trip to Winchell...watch out for wind. The waterfall from Tremble isn't real visible. Paddle along shore and listen for it. Tie off on bank and do a little Bushwhack into Falls and then it opens up. You can hike up the falls all the way to top. Further to west on Winchell is the big cliff....trail to top is to the right of cliff as you look at it. Not a great trail, challenging climb, gets a little confusing on top as you work your way out to cliff face. Great views though.
