Hi all!

In July, I'm taking my 72 year old dad up to the BWCA for his first time. I'm wondering about easy 3 day routes that also provide some sight seeing. Out and back or loops work. I'm looking for options other than Lake One, Moose, and Snowbank. I'm planning on outfitting through Williams and Hall in Ely.

Thanks for any help!

Go in at EP 64 E. Bearskin Lake, paddle to Canoe Lake or Alder or one of the other smaller lakes in the area. Then do a day trip hike to Johnson Falls, maybe explore Crocodile Lake. Lots of multi-species fishing opportunities including Lake Trout, brookies, walleye & SMB. A beautiful area, easy portages and the last time I was through there, we saw a mama moose and her calf.

Greywolf33– I think there was a discussion last year about Crocodile and East Bearskin permits. If I remember correctly, if you have a Crocodile permit you must camp there, and are not allowed to visit other lakes. If you have an East Bearskin permit, you are not allowed to visit or camp Crocodile.

Maybe you could do a version of this trip, just enter at the North Kawishiwi EP#29 to start closer to your outfitter.

If memory serves, an E.P. 66 Crocodile River Permit is required to overnight camp on Crocodile. Anyone with a valid permit can day trip to the lake.

Wouldn't work for Ely outfitter but Sawtooth Outfitter on Hwy 61 in Tofte is great, we have been using them for years. Homer Lake entry to Vern Lake, grab one of the two good campsites there and hang out for a few days. Great daytrip up the Vern River and plenty of other exploration to be had. Scenic and quiet area with good fishing, lots of fish caught right from camp. Simple, easy, scenic, quiet and rewarding.
