I have seen other photos from that series, but not these particular two. If that is the Little Long lake in Ely of Camp Easton fame (now Rock Ridge), that's fascinating. I'm having a hard time picturing where that might be on the lake as the shoreline looks too close together for the peninsulas of the camp property, and it looks so foreign to what I remember from the north end. That's some seriously dense old growth timber! In fact, I don't know that I have ever seen a forest in Minnesota that large and dense (usually dense equals smaller trees)! I have long wondered about the logging history of that lake as there's good evidence on the north ridge of the Easton property of past logging and a fire that came through after, possibly a slash fire, but some of the old growth lingered down by the water and on the steepest edges of the ravine which have some fire scars in them.

Shagawa use to be called Long Lake, that is why we have "Little" Long Lake.

Anyone know why we have Ed shave Lake?

Ed Shave used to be called Second Lake. You’ll notice there is First Lake and Third Lake along the Echo Trail, but no Second Lake. Ed Shave was a well know sports writer from Duluth.

That cliff by Ed Shave used to be a much tighter spot to drive.... often someone had to back up.
and those trees on Little Long look massive !

I used to catch some nice northerns in there. Sometimes right from the shoreline in the picture-before the boat landing was put in.

Love these old photos.

So those paddlers would be facing pretty much directly toward what is now Echo Shores resort, unless I’m getting turned around?

We spent an afternoon on Little Long Lake last summer. Only caught smallmouth and rock bass but I know there are decent walleye and pike in there.
