We need to bring with us:
RABC
Camping Permit
Fishing License
ID-Drivers License or Passport

Dont need:
Outdoors Card- plastic credit card type thing
Passport (if we have our Drivers License)

Is this correct or do we need the Passport no matter what?

You do need either your passport or passport wallet card. The card is all you need in Quetico. I'm not sure if you need your main passport if going across the border check point in a car.

You need passport, passport card or enhanced (not Real ID) driver's license to return to the US from Canada.

Definitely bring your Outdoors Card.

I entered from the north and had already been through the border checkpoint. I did not bring our passports with on trip. Not sure from the south what is legally required. You are not going through a CBP point though.

You do need the outdoors card and the paper copy of the fishing license though. Quetico permit for sure.

Yes. But not sure you need this on Canada, which is the question.

A warden has asked for our Outdoors Card.

I don't think you need passport or card or enhanced d.l. to enter and trip in Quetico, but if something happened and you were evacuated to Atikokan or Thunder Bay or anyplace in Canada - which is what Q rangers or mounties would do - sure would be easier to re-enter US if you had those documents. The RABC satisfies Canada.

I suppose I should have said this, we are entering through Cache Bay, up the falls chain and then back out at Cache Bay so we dont have to go through customs.

Someone made a good point that if we had an accident, while a remote chance, we would need some of that info at the hospital and to get back to the U.S.

I guess we are better off just bringing everything and just keep it all safe in the bottom of our daypacks so we have it, it weighs nothing and is better to just have it all.

That’s probably a good idea. US Customs is an angry bunch even on a good day.

I've heard that, but never stopped in. Maybe that's their strategy?

You legally need your passport or passport card, or some State enhanced ID/Drivers licenses will qualify (MN does). When I get my passport I just pay an extra $20 and they send the passport card as well. Easier for fishing/canoeing trips.

The chances of getting checked for a passport are minimal to almost zero in The Quetico. So you can take your chances. In the last 20 years I’ve only heard of one group getting checked by customs…I would hope customs has better things to do than check canoeists :)

A Quetico Park Ranger or Ontario MNR official will not look at your RABC nor your passport. In fact if you try to show them they seem to get almost scared, like they are going to get in trouble doing another department’s job LOL. I always try to show them…

Not any Minnesota Driver's License qualifies to cross into the US. One must pay extra for an Enhanced Driver's License which requires more stringent documentation to acquire.

Yes it is stringent!

My enhanced DL was rejected becasue the two forms of ID I presented were not identical.

8 weeks after I applied for the license I received the rejection. My passport ID says ‘Tom’ and my regular DL says ‘Thomas’. I had to find a birth certificate from my county of birth and send that in. 8 weeks later I received my enhanced DL. Whew!

Internet says only Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington have enhanced driver's liscences. Did not seem difficult here. Just FWIW.
