Hello Gang
Planning a trip first week of August to Sagnagons. Most likely base camping with maybe a move or two if desired. Going with my two teenage daughters. Fishing is the objective. Looking for any willing input on general areas to make camp in with plenty of choices for day trip fishing.

I'm interested in knowing if it is worthwhile to make the haul eastward to avoid crowds or if fishing will be as good or better closer to the falls. Thank you for any help you are willing to provide. I've been to the Q many times with the oldest daughter, now 18. First time taking the 13 year old.

Brian

Fishing is supposed to be exceptional on Saganagons! If you’ve got a Garmin I could send you the gpx file I did for that area. Email me a request.

Red is 4* 5* campsites reviewed off of PP
Blue is 3* campsites
Yellow is 1* 2* campsites

We will be there for a week starting June 19. I will give you a report. I have been there several times but the last time was in 2017. I have always had great fishing and a very memorable stay. We have always gone mid to late June.

I’ve been to Saganagons twice. Once the eastern end and once the western end. The eastern end is definitely quieter and receives less pressure. But I doubt the western end (like almost anywhere in Quetico) receives enough pressure to significantly impact the number or size of fish you’ll catch. I almost always take my trips in early June, but I think it’s helpful to have lakes of varying sizes around to day trip to. Sometimes fishing will be slow on one lake and red hot in the next lake, so it’s good to have options.

We were at Boundary Point June 2 - 7. Fishing was our best ever with lots of big walleyes. Stayed at the Bonsai Site and exited via Dickie's Portage.

What were the water levels like? Did you try any topwater for SM? And, were the bugs really as bad as what others have been reporting the last week or two?
We will be there Monday the 19th. Thanks for any info.

Shhhhh...that's the secret hot spot of Quetico. Eastern Saganagons is incredible for huge walleye and smallies. My personal best walleye of 30 inches was caught in that area. Average walleye there for us is around 24 inches. Will be there first week of august this year. Can hardly wait!

Based on the number of canoes I saw around Boundary Point last week, I'd say the secret is out. We saw a group leave BP area headed east in the morning and then return to the same site they left 8 hours earlier. All sites on the east end were full.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Maybe there will be a few left to catch in August.

Amazing that there were no sites available, but I'm not familiar with what's there. Hope you had a good paddle that day and a good trip!
