...'cause I'd like to trade some beer for my Helinox Chair Zero that I left there last week.

If anyone is headed there & willing to take on a chair-itable (shoot me) mission...let me know.

Cheers.

Heading to Kawnipi next week, but not sure if we’ll get that far north. If we do, I’ll take a look for it. Which site is it at?

Stimpy, thanks for even considering it.

Here's the pin for what I think is the exact location: Rose Island site - now with extra chair!

Regardless, have an excellent trip. Walleye were jumping into our boat, and that site was the best shore-fishing site we've ever had.

Stimpy, we also will be up on Kawnipi next week, we enter at Silver falls Monday morning, will stop around halfway for the night and hopefully get to McKenzie Bay for Tues, Wed, Thurs nights. Then head back down south.

We may run into you. When do you plan on being on Kawnipi?

We will have 3 canoes- 1 Kevlar and 2 aluminum. 2 green tents. 5 men and an 8th grader

We also dont usually go all the way to Rose Island but I have heard of the nice sites and killer walleye fishing.

Let me know

We're heading in through Prairie Portage up into Agnes next weekend. Not sure if we'll make it all the way to Kawnipi or not. If we do, we'll try to get to that site and see if it's still there.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate the consideration.

Let us know if you get your chair. We'll be there July 7th or 8th.

I hustled to Kawnipi from the Moose entry point on June 17th and picked it up for you. I'll email you to figure out the logistics.

I am no longer speechless - now I have endless questions! Are you saying you went from Moose Lake in the BWCA, through Prairie Portage, and up to Kawnipi to get my chair?! How big was your group? Route? How long did you take to get there? And, of course, how was the rest of the trip? Fishing? Please share some more with us...

Yea I started from the Moose entry point (no tow) starting at 5:30am. I slept in my truck the night before at the entry point so I could get a head start and be at Praire portage at 7:45am. I ended up making it to the Kawnipi island at 4pm. My advantage was that I'm solo, in my mid-20's, and I single portage.

Kawnipi was always on my radar as a place to check out so after hearing about your lost chair, I decided to head there. I initially was planning to do a Agnes -> falls chain -> Man chain loop but changed plans with this new pressing issue of the abandoned chair.

After getting to the site, I found the walleye fishing in that bay to be amazing so I ended up staying there for 2 layover days catching too many 19-23" walleyes to count. I started to get bored so I went to Cutty to try walleye there. I found the fishing there to be not as dynamite as Kawnipi so I returned to a different part of Kawnipi (couple miles north of Rose Island). Fishing was good in that part but not as good as south of Rose Island.

To end off the trip, I made my way down to Agnes to fish for lakers and found great success with all species. Within one hour at midday, I caught a good-sized laker, a 23" walleye, a 42" pike, and a decent smallie all on the same lure. Agnes is something special...

Anyways, very happy to rescue the chair and see how excited you are to be reunited with it!

This sounds like a good book.

Reminds me of Smokey and the Bandit.

Love this stuff.

I can hear the crescendo of an orchestral John Williams finale playing in the in the foreground. Hollywood couldn't have written a happier ending!

Here’s the best I can do for retrieving a lost item.

Several years ago did a short weekend trip in the very late fall, like November, to Bald Eagle Lake. Upon leaving and getting to my first portage out, I realized I had left my portage yoke at my last campsite. I made one out of a branch and tied it to my canoe to get home.

The next spring I went back the the campsite as early as I could, just after ice out. It was still there and I got my yoke back.

Great story to read along with. I’ve long thought backcountry campers to be some of the finest folks out there. Schlumpy is certainly among them!

...while packaging the chair for shipment, a rolled up piece of paper slid from one of the chair leg tubes. The yellowed and brittle piece of paper landed on the table along with a few crumbled bits. schlumpyj surveyed the scene for a moment, furrowed his brow and let the chair drop to his garage floor.

Carefully, he unrolled the paper. His eyes widened as he surveyed the amateurish sketch of lakes, portages and streams. The printed words at the bottom looked like something from a first grader. He read the text several times, focused on the scribbled map and then realized that the paper in his trembling hands, held directions that had been found in a hidden Quetico olive jar, which gave directions and coordinates to a stolen treasure, buried by voyageurs 200 years earlier. The treasure was described as gold and silver coins worth more than a man could spend in a lifetime.

schlumpyj looked up from the paper and stared into space. one corner of his mouth curled and he slightly smiled. "So, this is why he was so desperate for his chair." He looked back at his hands and started to chuckle. Then his chuckle turned into an evil laugh. "Oh, I'll send his chair back alright." He looked down at the disassembled chair on the floor. "But it will have one little piece missing!"

He flung open the door into the house. "Honey," he yelled, "I have packing to do."

He wife stepped into the kitchen and stared at him while continuing to brush her teeth. "What?" she mumbled.

"I gotta get my clothes and gear together." He opened the pantry and began grabbing supplies.

His wife removed the toothbrush and wiped her mouth with the back of her sleve. "Have you lost your mind? You just got home."

schlumpyj ignored her and continued opening cabinet doors and drawers.

"Just where in the world do you think you're going now?"

With a wild look in his eyes, he glared at her and smiled." I'm headed to Woodland Caribou."

**Okay guys and gals, if you want to, continue making additions to this story. Might be something fun to do for a while.**

Terry/24kGold, I'll interrupt the group story line for a moment to say how warm & fuzzy this thread has made me. When on June 9 sns started the thread by saying he'd left a chair on Rose Island, Kawnipi, I thought "Well, we're headed that way in August--I'll watch the thread", then on June 24 schlumpyj says "...picked it up for you...", and I thought what a great community we have on BWCA.com. Then I read that he made it from Moose to Rose island in about 1/3 the time it would take us. Props to you, schlumpyj--great to hear that the abandoned chair rescue effort resulted in your exceptional fishing.

Yet another reader dazzled by schlumpyjs brilliant deliverance. And the support folks give on this site.

But my pressing questions is: What lure did he use on Agnes to catch all those fish?!
