Nemo Moonlite Chair:

Just bought one on sale. With those wider feet it looks like I shouldn't get that sinking feeling (into the ground) like what happened with my Helinox Chair One before I bought the rocking feet.

Chair One + Rockers = $160 + $90 = $250 Cdn
Moonlite Chair = $175 Cdn

Seemed like a no-brainer to get the Moonlite chair as long as it doesn't sink into the ground.

Can any Nemo Moonlite owners confirm this for me?

Yep - the design of the Moonlite feet are much more robust and don't sink the way the chair one does... The other bonus no plastic hubs... Best chair IMHO

I just looked at one for sale at REI, was very impressed. Let us know how it works--Really dislike when chair feet sink.

Typical throw away mindset - Instead of finding an easy bush fix like putting birch bark under the feat, throw more good money after bad buy a replacement add to a landfill and end up with the same issue in the end.

Just teasing Argo, I felt like I owed you one. Enjoy your chair, take a seat and be happy.

Cheers, scat

Thanks DMan. It's what I wanted to hear.

Anthony - the Nemo fabric is less comfortable than the Helinox. And the straps are somewhat sharp against the forearms. But the reclining feature is sweet, the feet are superior, and the all metal design is solid. When the rocking feet are attached to the Helinox, I honestly can't decide which chair I prefer. I suspect my son and I will be switching regularly on our upcoming trip.

Scat, I'm trying to remember what I did to be in your debt. Throw a fellow a bone and remind me.

Edit: I just sold my Helinox Ground Chair on Facebook Marketplace for $120. I'm pretty sure my wife paid under $100 for it about five years ago. All $Cdn. It means I traded up for the Nemo for $55. Woohoo!

Has anyone seen replacement feet that would be less likely to sink?

Not a replacement but a modification of a hack. Instead of tennis balls, get the 2.5" version from a pet store. Will save in bulk. I haven't tried it and don't need to. I saw it as a hack on the web and seems to be a reasonable option. I've seen wiffle balls recommended as well but I wonder if they are truly robust enough to last a trip. Unlike tennis balls they collect less dirt and clean easily.

+1 on tennis ball idea. Work great on my chairs

I used this easy DIY ground sheet method using an old tarp and saved $35 plus gained a lighter storage bag for my chair zero. Trip mate had a Nemo Moonlite and still lost one of the feet off of it somewhere. My groundsheet worked perfectly

You can attach practice golf balls (the hollow plastic kind) onto the ends of the legs. They work great, are light, and are cheap.

I just bought a bag for this purpose from Walmart for under $4. I cut a small X in them and push the legs into the ball. They don't fall off and are super light. The chair still fits in its bag fine. Our chairs don't sink anymore!

Do they last? And what if you set your chair out on the rocks..does it slide around? Can you easily remove them and then reattach?

I am taking the Nemo back to MEC and will likely exchange it for a Big Agnes Mica Basin. The concenus in our house is that the pull straps on the Nemo are too uncomfortable on the forearms. I will miss the well designed feet.

I use the small tennis balls on my REI chairs. They do remove easily but I leave them on all the time. Chair fits back in carry bag with them no problem. In my experience they are not slippery on rocks and I use chair to sit on shoreline rocks all the time. I’ve had them attached for last 5 trips and show little signs of wear.

If you have a 3D printer, this may help your Chair One from sinking - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1661790
I printed a set of these for our Chair Zeros for a backpacking trip to Utah last year. They worked pretty well when it came to the sandy areas we camped in. I would think it would work in other conditions as well.

I just got in a new set of feet for my chair. They cost $12, which is a lot comparatively, but I will also use it this week so speed was a factor too.

Chair Feet

They were just a little big for my chair legs, but a little duct tape wrapped around the leg made it a tighter fit than the original foot.

The main reason I needed something was because one of the original feet fell off so it was jut the bare pole that always sunk and the leg would come off any support I used every time I moved.

Here are a few images to help explain this simple, effective, and cheap upgrade to keep chairs from sinking.

I've done this to all of my family's chairs. They work. No more sinking!

I've used them for well over a year. They last fine. They don't come off in use. They can be removed with a solid tug if needed. They've been used in sand, dirt, and rocks and they don't slip. So far, they're still working fine. For less than $4.00 for the bag, they're a cheap fix. They're light too!
