There was a statement in a Duluth News Tribune story this morning that the ban could be lifted ”soon” according to the feds. I’d pack the frying pan if I were you.

Looking at the current map and they increased the fire risks today from yesterday as crazy as that is. But looking at the forecast and it is 80s and 90s for the next 10 days and no rain.... I am predicting the fire ban to continue for quite some time.

I have a tendency to agree. The worst they could do is lift the ban, then experience 10 days of no rain and be right in the same boat. In years and bans past, the rain really needs to be part of a longer term outlook. The rain over the past week will be pretty much useless with 80 degrees, sun and wind for the next week.
Just my opinion, I could certainly be wrong. We go in the 9th. I am assuming no fires. (which is fine with us, we don't really use fires, except for a baked fish meal, which can easily be swapped onto a stove.) At least for me, fire is not needed for a fun and memorable trip, usually more work than its worth in the summer. But that's just me. :)

There’s chances of rain next Monday through Thursday according to the NWS.

That is another problem! Accuweather, WeatherWX, Weatherforyou, Weatherman, and NWS all have very different forecasts. Like ok its either going to be sunny or rainy and either 80 degrees or high 50s. I don't get how it is so different.

Yesterday (6/29) Ely received .86 inches of rain. Grand Marais only got about .01 of that. A DNR Fire specialist said that it helped, but with hot weather forecasted over the 4th of July weekend, the ban will stay in place. (WDIO news Duluth)

And that shows how gullible we are. We believe and trust weather forecasts!
I take it all with a grain of salt. As long as we are not trapped in a big high pressure, there is hope for weather to move in and out.

For the record, it is pretty sopping wet up there right now but that thin glacial soil doesn’t hold moisture too long.

Voyageurs National Park just lifted their fire ban effective today at noon...
maybe boundary waters will follow suit soon. St. Louis county at least would make sense..

Whitewolf is your go-to guy for that answer but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with which computer models each of them base their forecasts on....plus, I'm sure other factors.

I'll take that bet. $5 to bwca.com if ban is lifted Monday.

Forest service emailed outfitters this morning. The fire ban in BWCA will lift on July 3. Still no fires in the Quetico.
