Just randomly bought Yo-Zuri Super braid 15 lb mostly for inshore saltwater fishing with a spin cast reel. I was confused by the quick transition in braid to the higher lb test. Is there something I'm missing? I've always used 12 lb mono before and had a very short and bad experience with another type of braid in the past. I caught a laker and it was completely wound up in the line when I brought it up. I changed to a spare reel with mono after that. Maybe it was due to the laker spinning, but didn't want it to happen again. Before I re spool does anyone have experience with this line?

I'm a former fishing guide and retired now in SW Florida. I fish about 200 days a year and take my word for it the best braid hands down is Suffix 832. I use the 10 pound coastal camo pattern which works well on any type of water. I have been sponsored by all the line manufacturers in the past but I'm NOT sponsored By Suffix. I have caught Snook up to 36 inches, Redfish up to 33 inches and Jack Cravelle up to 30 inches on that line. I use a 20 LB Seaguar Red label leader joined by my own version of the FG knot . The line strength is PHENOMENAL. Try it you'll like it. ... I promise!

Lakers will take advantage of ANY slack in fishing line and do a "death roll", not uncommon.

I cannot imagine using braid with a spincast (close faced) reel. I like it for spinning reels and casting reels but would never use it for spincasting reels. Stick with mono or learn to use a spinning reel or casting reel.

Sorry, I misidentified it. It is a spinning reel. An Abu Garcia Orra 35. It recommends braid 14 to 90 lb if I'm seeing the small print right. From what I've read lower lb test casts farther more easily.

I don't know if I would go lower than 20lb braid/fused line on a baitcaster. The thin line will bind into the spool if pulled on when snagged.

I'm not familiar with that particular braid, but that sounds about right as far as LB test for a spinning reel. I am usually using 10-14 and occasionally 20 lb fused braid. If you don't like that braid, give Berkley Fireline a try. It helps with a lot of the issues with standard braid, like holding knots, being rough, being overly limp, etc.
