I think this exact situation has come up in the past for the NTL game. Many lakes are connected and often times will end up with two separate names. For example Karl Lake and Long Island Lake. In the case of Karl and Long Island, it's considered two seperate lakes. In this case of Knife the MN DNR considers it all one lake; south arm, north arm, knife - all just knife, much the same as Cooked isn't a bunch of separate lakes; Wednesday Bay Lake, Thursday Bay Lake, Friday Bay Lake...it's all just Crooked.
Hard to know I guess, unless you check the DNR website to see how they've got it labeled. One lake ID or multiple.

If I am correct, I have the intention of passing it to Mocha who I feel hit it. It just seemed so obvious with the clue that I couldn't help myself.
Have not actually been there, but the picture looking east sure matches the topo.
