JohnGalt: " Weird looking dog - any guess as to the breed? "

You mean that pine marten?

Funny…

Did it make that hole?

I’ve found them to be quite a nuisance at camps. Grab anything loose and run off, chew up packs. More so than mice or squirrels. Very cute though.

Well when you cut out a door for him , of course he's going to come by and visit ,,,, and run off with your catch ;)

Pine Martens are one of my favorite's to watch. If you've got one around, it certianly makes sitting in the deer stand entertaining.

You better stock up on dog food. He’s not going away soon!

Looks like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Chihuahua mix. Known as a lap dog with attitude.

That is clearly not a dog. I wouldn’t worry to much though, that kitty cat looks friendly enough.

The hole is part of the tent (fresh air intake). He (assuming) is a bit more destructive than the squirrel & mouse that also hang around though I think part of that has to do with it being larger & more capable as a result (e.g. he tore up a box I had in the foyer though the squirrel & mouse had found it first they did less damage). He stole a couple of sticks of butter from me the first day he came around haha. I expected my main threat, the bear, was gone & was surprised when I had a stick of butter missing one day. Next day, I caught him in the act. Has been a fun critter to watch. Far more curious & bold than the flying squirrel.

For sure, very entertaining. It is clearly a smart creature & it is fun to watch them think. Reminds me a good deal of a puppy.

Right?!? Haha. I thought about grabbing some snacks for the critters when I was out on my last supply run last week (probably just about snowed in now).

Haha \_(-_-)_/ I have been a bit lazy with my cooking & have a slight backlog of 'beef stew' & veggie eggs to make.

Better hope he has a couple friends, supposed to be a few three Martin nights coming this weekend. Snuggle up :-)

Good to see you posting again John! Now that Starlink has come out I am contemplating trying that in one of our camps like you have done

If you wanted & the schedule works out, you're welcome to borrow my setup to take for a test drive during your trip if you would like. Cheers!

We will be back up in the Gunflint area again 3rd week of September. Would love to touch base with you again. Also, if you ever travel through Kentucky, let me know

That could definitely work as I'll likely be transitioning to my winter camp at that time & would have access to the campground internet. Will keep in touch in the interim & will keep note of heading to Gunflint late Sept when you take your trip. Some folks I visit from time to time are in TN/SC/GA, so I do go through KY - will note to self to let you know next time I go through that way. That region is on my short-list for places to move though I think Ely may have taken the crown haha.
