Erin Altemus Currently between Nikolai and McGrath, about 680 miles to go!

Erin lives in the Grand Marais area, and runs a team through Sawtooth Racing. Her friend, who also used to live in Minnesota but moved to Alaska to mush, Anna Hennessy, is also in the race as a rookie. Both are doing great for their first time and I wish them all the best to get to Nome!

Erin is an amazing person. We worked together a few years when she was up on the gunflint trail. She and her husband are great spokespeople for mushing and owning a racing kennel. They listen to their dogs and encourage them with patience and gentle leadership.

There are many methods of working with sled dogs. These two are great.

Well, Erin had to scratch from the race today for the health of her team she says. Good run, and I hope she makes it back next year.

She will try again in the future, or perhaps her husband.
I can only imagine what all goes into doing that race…physically, mentally, emotionally, dog psychology….
