Having fished this lake plenty in my life I've never caught an LT over 24 inches. The lake seems chalk full of stunted fish. However I've caught some huge northern's over 40 inches back in the 90's. I assume no ciscos are present.

An accurate observation. My biggest Tuscarora laker was about 25 inches, caught through the ice. There are some big pike in there though.

Same experience - Nice fish, but there's certianly something missing that keeps them from making the next step beyond 24.

I am going to tag along onto this post with a question that might be able to answered in talking about Tuscarora and Trout.

I am doing a solo through Tuscarora this September and have never fished for Trout on purpose that I can remember. My question is, when I am there in September how would you recommend that I fish for them?

I would like to catch one or two and make a meal out of them over the fire but want to make sure I give myself the best possible chance with the fishing gear/tackle I bring with me. Thanks!!!!

In most of the lakes in that area lake trout grow very slow and the water is infertile. Northern pike get big feasting on lake trout-they love them.

Many of the smaller lake trout lakes in the BW dont have that nice forage base of ciscoes'perch-shiners like a knife lake does. And feeding more off of Crayfish-bugs/larva type food.
