Does anyone know if there are lake maps with contour and GPS coordinates for BWCA lakes? I'm planning a trip to Insula in a few weeks.

McKenzie, MN DNR (lakefinder), or Voyaguer Maps are the only paper map sources for the BWCAW that have lake contours. I don't think either of them have specific GPS coordinates.

If you look below on some of the recent posts you can find some mapping and GPS overlays.

This is a photo of my Lowrance MN Lakemaster 2009 chip of a spot on Northern Insula. I have an Ifinder ExplorerC--never used it in the BWCAW bought the chip for fishing MN lakes but nice to find most of the campsites, portages, lake contours are marked as well. FYI only the 2009 chip ha the BWCAW info.

My 2008 LakeMaster chip also has the BWCA campsite and portage info. I'm currently comparing the lake lists of the 2008 and 2009 chips for any updates of depth contours of BWCA lakes, as that is the downfall of the LM chips. For that reason, I own the 2009 Navionics North chip, also.

It sounds like I need to get a chip...there are no paper versions available with coordinates. Do the McKenzie maps have a good contour lines, humps etc on it? Thanks for the advise!

Thanks for setting me straight schweady----this is my first chip and the guy at Gander said this was the first edition that had the BWCAW campsites and portages. I'd be upset, but I bought the chip for Kabetogama and for lakes locally more than the BWCAW.
