I did a stove top test run of this dish tonight in preparation for our BW trip in two weeks. It's a keeper.

2 Packets Knorr brand Parma Rosa sauce mix
powdered milk
margarine
Hormel brand Real Crumbled Bacon, precooked 4.3 oz package
1 pound of pasta, your choice. (I used Rotini)

Start water boiling for pasta. Prepare the sauce as per package directions, using powdered milk. A stove capable of simmering, and a small whisk would be helpful. Prepare pasta as per package directions. Dump the package of precooked bacon into the sauce during the final minute. Drain pasta, add sauce with bacon. Serve with grated parmesan. You're going to wish you brought some red wine.

Serves 4 hearty appetites, or 5-6 lighter eaters. Can easily cut recipe in half for 2.

Post-trip follow up: Of the 7 dinners on our trip, the Parma Rosa was unanimously voted the favorite by our crew of 4. Give it a try! Fettuccini Alfredo with foil packed salmon was #2. I am sure fried walleye would have stolen the contest, but we released all we caught this time, mainly because it was too darn hot to think about building a fire.

Just got back from a car camping trip to the Black Hills of SD, but treated it as a canoe trip for gear and food.

We had Pasta Parma Rosa with Salmon and Alfredo with crab. Holy cow were those good. Next time will only use one packet for sauce as it was a bit salty.
My wife couldn't beleive how good we were eating on a camping trip. As we sat there eating those, we were trying to figure out how to make garlic bread.

"we were trying to figure out how to make garlic bread. "

By a package of "Bisquick Complete", this is a add-water-only mix. I'm not sure how many biscuits it officially makes, but I figure 4 big ones. There is a garlic & cheese variety. This makes a great garlic "bread".

Mix it up according to directions. Make into 4 "patties". Put a little oil in your fry pan. Set your stove on its lowest setting (or use the campfire). Fry your biscuit patties like a pancake, although you should use a cover on the pan as well. When the bottom is done, flip it and fry until the other side is done as well.

It is like a biscuit with two bottoms and no top -- BWCA Double Bottom Biscuits is what I call them. You'll like them!

I like a similar recipe but instead of bacon use Hormel pepperoni with the parmassen...
Found it in an old Hormel pepperoni cookbook.. Good!!

Pepperoni Pasta Carbonara Servings: 4
Ingredients - 1 package refrigerated fettuccini (9 ounce) - 1 cup heavy cream - 1 egg - 2 tablespoons butter or margarine - 1 package HORMELĀ® Diced Pepperoni (6 ounce) - 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese - 2 tablespoons fresh parsley - fresh black pepper, to taste

Directions Prepare pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in saucepan, combine cream, egg and butter or margarine. Cook and stir constantly over medium heat until mixture begins to coat a metal spoon (about 6 minutes). Drain cooked pasta and immediately pour prepared sauce over hot noodles. Add pepperoni, Parmesan cheese and parsley. Toss to mix well. Season to taste with fresh black pepper.
