Tuna now comes in poly bags - these can be brought into the BWCA, (unlike cans) so I've added tuna to a few of our meals. Good sources of lightweight affordable protien are sometimes hard to fit into a BWCA meal plan. (I never use the bland, overpriced pre-prepared camping food)

Now that tuna is kosher with the Rangers, try tuna-helper for dinner, or a "tuna salad kit" with crackers for a nice lunch. Even an extra bag of tuna can come in handy to be added to some meals like mac n' cheese or fettichini alfredo - (don't knock it till you've tried it!) Some brands come pre-seasoned, so they can be opened and eaten off crackers for a quick high protien lunch or snack.

I thought I might also add to this. While the Tuna, chicken, and also ham in the bags are very nice. Plus I might add I take them too. But just remember the bags are foil lined, so not all of the bag will burn up.in the campfire.

Just a note about the foil in the meat pouches..ANY aluminium will oxidize in a fire at a relatively low temperature. If you put foil in the center of a good fire it will be gone in a short time..Check the fire pit in the morning for foil parts and carry any parts out. You will probably find only ashes.

Do you think the aluminium pouches will burn completly or should I check the fire in the morning for ashes?
